There's not a lot to choose between them -
Option 1 - is slower, because it insists on checking everything that might possibly be a Garmin unit (such as the floppy drive, and my bluetooth phone serial connection!).
Option 3 - puts you in charge - but it doesn't store the setting.
If you run POILoader with the /Silent qualifier, it uses the setting from the last time you ran Option 1.
Also (not a problem for you), Option 1 has to be used for devices like the Streetpilot C3xx class, that don't have a mass-storage mode.

POI Loader- Which Option?
I chose the first option "Garmin Device." All worked fine for me.
(I too already had a single POI file ready to go, but couldn't figure out how to make the loader look at the single POI file, so I just had the POI Loader look at all the individual CSV files and directly load them into the Garmin 255W. I suppose you could simly use windows explorer drag & drop to replace the POI file from Garmin device w/ the new POO file from your PC.)
Note that the new loader gives you the option to DELETE all existing CUSTOM POI's & replace with all new -- or it also gives you the option to incrementally ADD POI's to existing POI's on the Garmin -- it just updates the single CUSTOM POI file in Garmin.
