Replacement for 370

Hi
I am about to replace my nuvi 370 that my wife lost. I have a couple of questions that are hard to answer by looking at a local store. Would appreciate answers or advice on:

1. I assume that the stuff my wife did not lose for the 370 (the beanbag mount, fm traffic receiver and such) would work on any nuvi. Is that correct?

2. Given the new nuvi's, the 760 has really dropped in price. While I do not care about the bells and whistles, I do care about being able to use handheld in bright sun. Is the 760 screen better in bright sun than the 3x0 line.

3. Other than a bit more size, anything to hate in going wide screen.

4. Has anyone touched a 255? How do they look?

5. My trusted vendor has a 770 for $200 more than the 760. I need European maps. But it appears I can download those for $129 from Garmin. Any reason to spend $200 for the 770 over the 760.

Sorry for lots of questions, even in NY it is hard to lay hands on many of these models, and even harder to test under real conditions.

As always, TIA

Neal

I don't think the GTM-10/12 (USB) style receiver will work with the 7xx (and 6xx?), which use the GTM-20/21 (cradle connection).
[I'll know soon - I just bought a GTM-12 off eBay for my 310...I'll try it with the 760]

Update As expected, it doesn't work - when plugged into the 760, it says "Accessory connected to wrong port".

That bit more size stops it being anything like as pocketable as the 3xx.

7xx use different cradles than 3xx. The mount and ball will be the same, but you'll need different cradles AND chargers. The traffic connectors are different, too.

2. Given the new nuvi's, the 760 has really dropped in price. While I do not care about the bells and whistles, I do care about being able to use handheld in bright sun. Is the 760 screen better in bright sun than the 3x0 line.
BIG difference with sunlight viewing between my 350 vs 760! Plus the 7xx has a much wider viewing angle and better contrast. Still hard to see in bright sun, but much more usable.

3. Other than a bit more size, anything to hate in going wide screen.
Not as pocketable, that's for sure. Significantly heavier in the pocket, too. Since the icons for traffic, mp3, phone, +/- all go on the sides, it leaves move center area for map display.

thanks

Was able to try to the pocket test at a local store, seems like the wider screen still fits.

Liking the latest in chips, I went for a 255W and a separate European maps on SD card.

Will report on what it is like when i get on Tues. Can't wait.

Thanks
