Having trouble using a new SD card. I unloaded all my POI flies from my Garmin unit.Turned the Garmin off, installed one Sandisk 2GB card. When I tried to reload my POI files using POI loader all the files went directly to the Garmin unit.Am I missing a step???
.
You need to CHOOSE the SD card as the destination in the POI Loader screens. Don't accept the default which is likely your nuvi drive.
What ver of poi loader do
What ver of poi loader do you have, if the new one 2.5.2 did you make the selection of custom folder and not garmin device.

SD Card
I have POI Loader Ver 2.5.2,went to custom file but I'm having a problem giving it a Directory name which it is asking for. My poi files, located in my computer,is located as follows. C:\Users\Store\Documents\My-Poi's. I'm lost,It's looking for a directory. The SD card shows up as Drive F:\. When checking properties on this F:\ drive everything checks out as far as available space (1.89gb) My problem seems to be directory related.

Two different things.
On a first screen, you select the DESTINATION for the data. You need to use the drop down arrow where it reads "Device" and select your F: drive (if that's your SD card).
On a later screen, you select the SOURCE of the data which is your "My-Poi" folder on your computer. You press the "Browse" button and navigate to the FOLDER that is the source of the data.
Why F: drive first?
Can we not select the nuvi device directly when loading poi files?
SD Card
Not Wanting to make a stupid comment, but do you have the switch on the side of the SD card in the Locked position?
Yes.

What you can do is put your card in SD drive. When you run the POILoader, it will automatically find it. Even if your nuvi is connected, you can still use the pull down selection menu to select the card instead. After you load it to the card and inserted to the unit, it will prompt you to see if you want to copy it to the main unit as well. If so, you can delete your custom POI from the card. The only annoying part is that it will ask you everytime you power on the unit if you choose not to do so....

I have to ask again...

Sorry I don't think my question was answered. I was referring to MM's post above. Why must we "need" to choose the SD card as destination? Why must we "not accept" the default nuvi drive?
It's fair to note that I've done it both ways, but now I'm second-guessing myself after reading the above, is there harm loading the POI files directly to the nuvi drive?
In a word...
No, it just saves space on your nuvi as you are probably aware.....
You only "need" to select your sd card if that is where you want to save it..

Thanks!
...for the quick reply!
You can fix that.....
The only annoying part is that it will ask you everytime you power on the unit if you choose not to do so....

Jeff,
If you are being asked every time if you want to move your custom POI files from the card to the unit and you don't see any way to tell it to permanently leave you alone then select YES. Once you do that you will get the option to Skip the file and a box to check to NOT ask you again. It won't ever ask you about that file again unless you re-load it onto the card.
