Free Topo Maps

Hello I was trying to post this message at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/982 but I never got the reply button.

So here goes. I was looking for Topo maps the other day for my New Garmin 76CSX I plan to buy in a few weeks and I came across this site.

http://rwsmaps.griffel.se/

Not sure if anyone can use this but thought I would pass it along. Now the question is why can't I see a reply button. I used Webroot Window Washer to clean my Firefox cache and relogged into the site and I still can't reply.

Oh well.

Hey Mike I was wondering what you think about your 76CSx? I am thinking of upgrading to that model. For some reason it's cheaper than the 60CSx and it has less features. You can send me email if you prefer that.

Haven't Had Time...

Ray,

I haven't had time to play with it much because of work. garmin was nice enough to send me another one as the one I got from PCNation.com had the wrong model number on the unit.

Give me a few days to play with the unit and i'll let you know what I think of it. From what I've done with it so far the unit is top knotch. It has great feel to it and its not bad cheaply like some of the other cheaper models I tried out.

The unit comes with a 128 meg card and USB cable. It's the same one as my 2720. I'll get back to you in a few days.

Look forward to hearing about it. Odd how it's got 2X the memory of the 60CSx plus it floats and it sells for less. To me that's a winning combination! All the bells and whistles for less! Also want to hear how well it works at navigating. Read there is an update that increases the volume so it's easier to hear while driving.

Thanks for sharing. This might help with Mexico. My father purchased the Mexico map, but much is missing, and my brother is working there.

Garmin 76CSx.

Ray,

I finally got to play with this unit. I kind of waited until I had a case for it before I did to much with it as i didn't want it to get scratched.

The unit has a great solid feel to it plus its not cheap or flimsy. The screen is easy to see and once you learn the keys its easy to do.

The only grip I have about it is when I have to enter the POI name. I wish they would of made a touch screen where u can enter the information with a finger or a pen (Stylist) like a palm pilot.

Garmin has been fantastic on the help and support. The great thing is they gave me an unlock code for my maps so I could use on this unit. You are allowed to have two unlock codes for your maps.

You can also set up how your page will be when you first turn the unit on. The defualt page shows all the satelights. I set mine to show the current position im at.

There are lots of menus and settings to do. You can change the skin and appearance of your unit. I downloaded mainly the maps of the stats i drive in as well as all of canada just in case i get there this summer.

I am glad I bought the 2 gig card as the maps i installed take up over 750 megs. I still want to install some topo maps that I bought as well. I had to call Garmin to get help on how to install the maps but it was easy to figure out how to do it.

I still want to install some of my POI files but I will have to call up about that.

I bought my unit from PCNation.com They had the best price at the time. When I recieved my 76CSx the unit was not what it said it was. On the unit it said 76CS not 76CSx. After talking to Garmin the unit was infact a 76CSx. Garmin was great they Drop shipped me a new unit and sent it Fedex Next Day.

Sorry I paid for a unit to say 76CSx not the older model. PCNation wasn't as helpful as garmin was. They couldn't figure out what the bid deal was. Oh well.

76CSx

Hi Mike,
Thanx for the information on your 76GSx. It sounds like a great lil unit that will get you anywhere you want to be! Have you tried using it for navigation too? Are the audible alerts loud enough to hear while driving?

Audio Alerts

Ray,

The aren't bad...Just don't have your radio to loud. I don't recall seeing a place to turn the sound up loader.

You can change the tones to what ever u want. I also have it set up to show me when to turn and to make an alert sound when I need to turn.

I will have to see if I can turn them up louder. On my garmin 2720 I don't have to worry about the sound on it.
