Nuvi speed sign

My Nuvi 750 will display the posted speed limit on major roads. I would say it is 95%+ right most of the time. It is fun to look at but can you do anything with it?

I thought I read some where that you can set an alarm to go off if you exceed the posted limit, does anybody know? Apart from looking at it, what can you do with it? I tried tapping it but that does nothing. I looked for settings in the menus but there doesn't seem to be any.

Any suggestions would be great.

You can't do anything about it. Just hope that it will get updated in the 2010 maps.

None of these speed limit signs do anything other than label what was supposedly the speed limit on certain large interstates/highways. They don't talk and you can't make them talk. They are signs.

No, I believe the only models that have the speed limit display feature are the Nuvi 700 series and possibly the 800 series.

I have a nuvi 660. It is supposed to display posted speeds, but I have never seen it on the screen.

Hi epc2,

The 6XX series Nüvi "do not" display posted speeds and never have...

More Signs on 2009 Maps

My Garmin 760 did not show speed limit signs on most roads until I upgraded to the 2009 maps. Now I see the sign on almost all roads.

Updating the 780 did it for us

Same with our 780.

My 760 with 2008 maps display speed limits on interstate freeways only. Does the 2009 display them in state freeways?

Yes

At least it does on major streets in Los Angeles, I think the criteria is maybe if the name contains Blvd... And all freeways...

My nuvi 750 with the 2008 map showed speed limits on most interstates only, as others have seen as well. With the 2009 map update, my little city with a population of 60000 now shows speed limits on state highways and even most city streets.

On city streets, it's amazingly accurate as far as indicating speed limit changes as you drive further downtown, for example. I have seen at least one skipped speed limit change, so it's still advisable to read genuine road signs alongside the street wink and not put total trust in your nuvi.

Even 2-lane county roads

With the 2009 update, I get speed limit signs even on 2 lane county roads.

The 3xx and 6xx nuvi series displays the North pointing arrow. This directional arrow was replaced with the speed limit sign at the same location on the 7xx and 8xx model series.

On either of the model series these are indicators and do nothing but this function (indicate only). IMO: The ability to set an alarm or toggle between the two indicators would be a nice feature. Only time will tell if Garmin decides to add more functionality to this.

The speed limit display is a great feature. I find I glance at it all the time. It helps keep me legal since some of these back roads in some states post limits few and far between.

The new 200 series will have speed limit too.
