Can anyone point me to some figures about the current market that the Portable devices such as the Garmins and Toms Toms (Ones that can accept custom POIs) have here in the US?? I found a few articles but they are from 2005 or from the UK and Europe??
I am not looking for the hand helds but rather the Nuvis etc for cars and turn by turn directions...Sorry for the confusion!
Thank you!!
Hard to say
I have not seen any specific facts or figures, but anything published today would probably show tremendous growth over anything from 2005. With the significant decrease in cost (sub $200 vs. over $1,000) usage is much more prevalent then ever. Like having a computer, cell phone, or the Internet, people are already asking themselves what ever could we have done without a GPS unit…
Hard figures
Thanks and I have pointed that out to those who are asking and maybe the next step is to contact Garmin directly...but there has got to be someting ont eh web that is public facing...at least I would think so??
It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.
Anyone Bueler Bueler??
Anyone know where this info lives or can be found? Thank you

A few sources on GPS marketshare

And here is something from the Christmas season

Yes, discounting last Christma...err..Holiday Season did move many units. However, the rate of sales has slowed during the first quarter of 2008.
Re: Market Analysis
A reliable source of this type of analysis are market research companies. They charge a pretty penny for their work, so I'd doubt that you'd find anything current just lying around, for free.
Here's an example of how much this type of report costs:

Historical analysis between public companies is done based on reported growth or units shipped, after quarterly reports are issued.
