Buy another Garmin charger; not all cables are the same.

No options

You have no option but to get a replacement cable ... it's something to do with the current as I understand it.

I recently found an adapter

I recently found an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter, and exposes a standard USB slot. This allows you to use the same cable as you would with your PC, and the unit will charge from it. And USB voltages are standard smile

Have you tried to plug the blackberry cord in the cradle and not directly in the GPSr? Just a guess.

Which usb cable are you refering to..

The one you attach to your computer or the one that attaches to the cradle...

I have found that if I charge my 760, not sure about the 350. with my blackberry charger, while it's showing the computer connection, if I try to turn the unit off and then unplug the charger and then plug it back in the unit powers up in the gps mode... It may take a little experimenting but you may find you can do the same thing.

If you are referring to the usb cable for the computer it probably doesn't matter, you can always purchase another cable from Garmin or look up the part number at Garmin and Google it; you will probably find a better price... wink

mini usb

You can you the blackberry mini usb to power you 350 with no tricks if you plug it into the cradle. If you use the computer mini usb port directly, you need to turn the unit on first (with no cable attached) press the battery icon until the unit goes in test mode, then plug the usb cable in and exit the test mode. You can turn it off and on as many times as you want until you unplug the cable, then you will have to redo the process.

yes it does, but......

I have found that it sometimes messes up the TTS voices on my 750 so be aware! It doesn't damage the unit just unhook it and reboot. I have been trying to figure out how the fix it but haven't yet.

There's one point worth noting:

When plugged into the cradle, there is seemingly, no check for the resistor between Pins4+5 of the plug - it assumes it is a Garmin charger (capable of supplying 1A). If it's not, then it tends to power the Nüvi...but not necessarily charge it.

If the battery is very flat, it tries to draw more current than the non-garmin charger can supply, and the voltage drops as a result. It then decided the Nüvi is fully charged and doesn't try any more. (As you find out later!).

(A blown fuse might result in your Blackberry charger as well).

I discovered this, when I was using a PC USB port to charge my 310, via a spare cradle. (It works ok from a cheapo powered USB hub).

If 500mA = .5A

At least that's what I thought the conversion was... A computer's usb port when it's not in sleep mode puts out 500mAs The Blackberry charger, at least the one I have is rated at .7A or if my calculations are correct 700mA. Correct? If this is correct then the Blackberry charger puts out more than a computer usb port. I have also read that the usb ports on the back of the computer put out 500mA while the ones on the front may only put out 100mA...

Some motherboards have a jumper that lets them continue to power the USB, even in sleep mode.

Yes, that's correct - though it's still a lower rating than Garmin's charger. Incidentally, I have a Blackberry charger in front of me that's rated 0.5A @ 5V, so there's obviously more than one type.

They're probably PCs that have a built-in hub, to expand the number of ports. I was reading (some) of the USB specs. and the minimum current requirement is actually 100mA, not 500mA.

I also came across something called the USB Battery Charging Specification, which allows for dedicated 'USB' chargers to provide upto 1.5A.

Confusing, isn't it? smile

Yes quite...

My wife gave me a toy called a modpod, it is quite handy to use while traveling. It has a 3.5A rated at 3A transformer. (3000mA). It has 6 ports and you can charge phones, mp3 players, PDAs, and I guess GPSs at the same time. It came with multiple adapters for different types of units. Now I just take that instead of all the chargers I used to take for my toys... Looking at other usb type chargers, I have one at .5A or 500mA and another at .55A or 550mA, they seem to be all over the place. So your safest bet is use the one that came with the item or as bentbiker said "but a new charger" (But I'm still going to use my modpod, it's just to cool cool not to.... I like the colored lights)
