putting states on poi files info

When I down load a file from the site (ie. school zone,Cracker Barrel ect.) the file shows the city.
Is it possible to put the state in front of the city when they are made that way when they are down loaded so we can select the one we need and not all the others
to save space on gps.
Or is it there and I am doing something wrong?

putting states on poi files info

This has been asked a number of time and no final decision ever made. I know that it would help with usa files, but could be a large project to change the current poi's listed. Some will say sort in excel and other programs but that doesn't always work for the best.

Is it possible to put the state in front of the city ...

If you're running Windows, try POI Verifier at http://PoiVerifier.com to split POIs by state, it may solve your problem.

state verifier

Tried to get on the site you posted but it would not give it to me.
I will try later.

Thank for the help.

Going on my first trip tomorrow with my Garmin 660, from Lafitte, La. to Windsor, IL and then to Branson, Mo. Maybe I won't get lost and have the wife screaming at me.

HA! HA!

Free Trial or pay only?

Is POI Verifier available as a free trial? The other day I tried to get it to try it out and it didn't seem to want to do anything without first paying for it. Sorry, but unless you are Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Roxio, etc. I am not inclined to pay for "shareware" level software before getting a chance to try it first.

Maybe I just missed the trick to get it to work in a try out basis?

Regards,
PT

Excel add-in

If you have Excel, Try...

"ASAP Utilities is a powerful Excel add-in that fills the gaps in Excel and automates frequently used tasks." http://www.asap-utilities.com/

They have a utility that will select rows of data
based on some condition like STATE CODE, IL, TX, etc.

I usually do

1) Block the address column
2) ASAP/Select/conditional row...delete/
3) change search option to "not equal to"
4) search for "* IL *"
5) change found option to "Delete"
6) press start

This will delete all entries except for data containing " IL ".

Save the file to another name to prevent losing the master file.

Like it says on the website and also has been posted here, (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13780) it will not work correctly with Vista if you upgraded to SP1. SP1 appears not to be compatible with a lot of software/hardware. I contacted Microsoft; but waiting for them can take a long time.

POI Verifier Download Removed

You show me any place you can get a LEGAL copy of Windows XP/Vista for a 'horrendous donation' of $6 and I'll do it. If $6 is going to break your bank, you shouldn't even consider donating.

Need not worry anymore as I removed the program download link. Along with these complaints and Vista SP1 screwing up the compatibility, I don't have time to put into solving Microsoft's SP1 compatibility problem as I'm still recovering from a 4-way heart bypass. Sorry.

RT,
I think that some of the new people do not understand the contributions that you have made to this community.

You designed this program just so that the GPS community could produce really clean files. When you did this you had not gone fully into retirement and so it became an extra financial burden to keep the space that you had when you had financing from your job to pay for the expense.

I begged and pleaded with you to continue to develop and improve this great software because it is such a great tool for the development of high quality POI files.

You agreed and decided to sell it for a price of $6, which I feel is a bargain.

I love you, this community loves you and I can't tell you how happy I was to hear that you had a successful surgery and that you are ok now.

I will respect your decision and will always give you support in whatever you are doing. You have become a good friend to me over the last few years.

I want you to focus on getting better and living life to its fullest.

Sincerely,
Miss POI
