Custom POIs in this version?

It will be interesting to see if this version will show the mapsource custom poi files created in the new version of poi uploader.

If it can, it's keeping the functionality well hidden!

Also, they've not tackled the incompatibility with POILoader 2.5.2 (where all the comments are duplicated).

Changes made from version 6.13.7 to 6.14.0.1:

Changed map rendering technology to provide visual improvements. This may cause slower rendering on some older machines.
Incorporated new artwork into splash screen and application icons.
Added new product info dialog.
Added support for U.S. National grid and Swedish SWREF99 grid.
Fixed an issue when trying to set the PC clock on Vista.
Added ability to change the color of routes.

features

I was just checking this out. It seems that they have some new base map icons too. Also, I kind of like the duplicating feature. I use it to pull in more text. I use the first comment field now to just list the address, phone number etc..then the descriptive field I use for the detailed info about the POI. It would be nice if they just listed both text boxes in Mapsource to begin with.

Interesting. Any other

Interesting.
Any other features?

Solid?

Can someone that has the mapsource beta version do me solid and go into edit, preferences, and on the Display tab click "change map font" and see what font is currently listed? (don't chnage it though) Apparently you are unable to change the font in the beta version and all the street names are now gone. (Non Beta versions you are able change). I thought it said "MS something" but I just went through them all and it didn't come back. Thanks.

Microsoft Sans Serif

Hope that helps...

Regular style, Size 10

Nope, Thanks though.

OK So it looks like I just found a major problem with Mapsource Beta that you are unable to change fonts. I guess I will try and unistall then re-install it next.

You are absolutely correct

Just checked it out, all the street names are gone...

So everybody take our word for it don't change the fonts in the Beta vs of mapaource... wink

And uninstalling it

and re-installing it doesn't fix the problem.
I tried:
Just re-installing it
Un-installing it and then re-installing it.
Un-installing it re-booting and then re-installing it.

Still no street names...

So I just un-installed it.... It was only good for a couple weeks anyway..

Didn't try

I un-installed it but did not try re-installing it yet. The only thing that I thought was kind of better is they have the full size streets rather than the regular version appearing as just a line. It's a little clearer with beta to see which side of the street something is on.

Beta Versions

It is sometimes wise not to jump on "the latest and greatest" bandwagon.

Software companies experiment a bit too much in "the wild" and we are the guinea pigs.

Wow the beta version of

Wow the beta version of Mapsouce is a huge resource hog. My Thinpad T61 (2Gig mem) slows to grinding halt trying to update the NYC metro with highest detail which I prefer! Also there are terrible refresh problems where I need to grab the hand icon and move it around the map to get the map to refresh...Argh.

I sure hope this new interface is optional since Mapsouce will not be usable on most machines.

By the way I have not tried this: If you lose your font and can not get it back try removing the Mapfont entry in the registry then running the install should write the registry with the default font.

If you don't know what the registry is or how to edit it you probably should not attempt it since mistakes can make your Windows OS inoperable.
