Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I tried to use POI Loader to install some POI files I've downloaded from here, but I can't see them on the map after I've installed them. Did I do something wrong? I tried searching the forum before I posted. Sorry if there's already a post about this. Thanks
There are many posts regarding this issue..
To start with where are you looking for them on your unit? Were all the files named correctly? And what procedures did you use to load them?
This is from a previous post:
If the files are csv files, do not have double extensions, i.e. poi.csv.csv etc.
Run the poi loader with your unit attached,
You want to download the files to a Garmin device. Select Next.
The poi loader should find your device if it is connected and turned on (It normally turns on when you connect the device). After it finds your device, Select next.
Select install custom poi’s onto your device.
Browse to where the files are located..
Select express (recommended) and then select next.
The poi's should load..

Hi Gary,
I'm looking in the Extras menu under "Where to?" and also on the actual map.
I assume the files were named correctly since I downloaded it from this site.
I started POI Loader, followed the prompts, and used the Express install.
Thanks!
You are looking in the right place
In the extras you should see custom Pois, that is where they will be. Select custom POIs..
I see you have a c550, so do I and the above procedure works for me..

You might be thinking like I
You might be thinking like I was when I loaded up some custom POI files. I thought that they would for sure pop up on the map if they were within the window I was viewing.
Does that happen by the way? I'm not asking the original poster, but others with more knowledge on the subject than myself. Do custom POI locations, and their BMP images, show on the map when you are just viewing the map screen? That would be great if they did...

Yes

You have to be zoomed all the way in and some models require that you be in 2D mode.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Thank you bentbiker!
bentbiker - your answer was it! I can only see the POIs in one of the 2D modes. Thanks!

Hi Gary, for some reason, when I select custom POIs, nothing is listed. However, if I go to one of the 2D modes, I do see the POIs on the map.

Have you tried to reload them?
Prior to doing that check the file names. I'll use the red-light poi as an example:
Redlight-Cameras.csv
Redlight-Cameras.bmp
Redlight-Cameras.mp3
They should all have identical names except for the extensions and be in the same folder.
Then load them using the instructions in my preceding post.
If you want warnings you need to use the manuel mode. But that's another kettle of worms. Let's see if you can't get them loaded to start with..
BTW do you have the latest poi loader?

Also you are tapping the custom pois when it appears after tapping extras aren't you?

Thanks Gary!
Hi Gary,
I used the link you provided and downloaded POI Loader again. It has the same filename and size as the one I downloaded from Garmin's website, but after using this version, I can see the POIs now!
Thanks again!

c550 displays in 2D or 3D
My C550 displays custom poi locations in all viewing modes. 2D or 3D and doesn't matter if it's in Most or Least Map Detail. I still see either the gray dot or custom bmp for each custom poi location.
In "browse map" mode the factory icons are visible.
Zoom must be 300, 200, 120 or 80' level to see custom poi's when just driving by. Factory icons are not visible from the nav map.
You will see the icon for each custom poi location in any zoom level if you:
Select a custom poi location then press the tab to view the map.
