red-light camera changes my song

I have been using my nüvi 670 for about a year and the weirdest thing started happing with my red light camera voice announcement. These are the file names loaded in:
Redlight-Cameras.csv
Redlight-Cameras.mp3
Redlight-Cameras.BMP
Everything works great except when I am playing mp3's either from the gps or a SD card. When I am playing music and am approaching a camera my nüvi changes to the next song and the next and the next each time it is prompted to say red-light camera approaching. This may have started after a software update but not sure. I contacted Garmin and they worked with me for a bit and asked me to send the unit in. After getting it back the issue was still there. I contacted them again and they said they would replace the unit. It was suggested to me that it may be from the files that I loaded from poi factory but we all know that not to be. I have to say that you can’t beat Garmin as my unit is about a month out of warranty and they are replacing it. I haven’t returned the unit yet and I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts on a fix.

Unfortunately, you seem to have been in touch with some of the less well informed parts of Garmin sad

They introduced this bug a while back into the 6xx series ...and then introduced it into the 3xx series as well...

It's been reported that you can work around it, by using a .WAV file instead of an .MP3 for your alert (see also this thread:-)

Sorry

You can either remove your custom audio alerts, like most of us, until/if it is fixed, or you can downgrade your firmware. There are numerous posts about this problem. You should call and demand to speak with a supervisor at Garmin. It is bad enough that they haven't fixed the bug, but to be doing multiple replacements of units is both ridiculous and sad.

Is Garmin Aware?

Is Garmin really not even aware of this problem or is it just the 1st level CS folks?

I can't believe someone at some higher level is not aware.

Wow... Thanks for the

Wow... Thanks for the replies. I had no idea about this. I am on this site often and can't believe I missed this one sad Well no harm done to me but you are right that Garmin should fix this. Will be talking to them about this tomorrow!

Okay so you guys are correct

Okay so you guys are correct and I am surprised. I thought that Garmin support was well versed in most issues. I called back today and spoke to someone else and he told me to remove and then re install the files. I kept him on the phone with me and of coarse that didn’t work. I brought to his attention that this is a known issue and nicely asked to be bumped up to the next level. After a minuet he came back and told me that he spoke to the next level (hum) and said that it is a known issue (I guess he didn’t know about it). He said that they can’t help me revert to the previous firmware but I could go to http://gpsinformation.net/ and do it from there (not going to happen in this nüvi’s lifetime). He added that this would be fixed with the next firmware update but had no estimated time when that would be available. That’s my story ☺

This is why I put off

This is why I put off updating my nuvi 680 software but recently I bit the bullet and went ahead and updated. Now I have a similar problem..When I am playing an mp3 song..and I approach a cam alert..it doesn't go to the next song, but it starts the song all over again, everytime I get an alert.

Thanks

Thanks for the update. If he was given correct info that it is planned to be fixed with the next upgrade, that is great info. Some of us get the impression that as with the currency convertor problem and lightning bolts on some units, they never really address fixing bugs -- they spend all their resources on new products and fixes to s/w that are necessary to sell new maps.

Garmin Support

I finally got a response from Garmin Support about this well documented problem. From the tone of his message, it sounded to me that this was a "new" problem to this particular tech. Makes me wonder if they talk to each other. I even included links to the several topics on POI Factory as proof of how many models it effects and how long it has been known.

Here is the response:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
Thanks for the heads up. I have been able to duplicate this on a device with the same results you are seeing. I have notified our engineers of this issue so that it can be corrected in a firmware update in the future.

Garmin bug fixes

I hope that you folks will be a bit patient with Garmin. Until you have listened to hours of idiot noise and heard "your call is important to us" 1000 times you may not realize that Garmin customer service is about the best there is! They give good estimates of wait time and then do their best to help. I have dealt with them for as long as they have made GPS units.

I have sent in bug notices several times, and have almost always found my concerns addressed in the next updates. yes, they are developing a lot of stuff, and yes that demands time, but they appear to me to be quite serious about making everything work. If they did not show concern in their customer service department, I would go elsewhere.
