SD card question

If I purchase a SD Card can I install POI's on it. Will they show up on my screen or do I have to load the ones that I want to show up?

How many Custom POI's can I install on the actual Nuvi 250 system?

Thanks

Not sure about 250, but on

Not sure about 250, but on my 360, I could install it onto the SD card. And the 360 can support upto 4GB SD card.

nuvi 260

I have all my poi on my sd card. You just have to select what drive your sd card shows up on your poi loader not you garmin device. After you load up the points, than the unit asks you if you want to store a copy on the gps in case the card is removed. select no. than hit the checkbox to not ask the question again..

I did it that way and all my poi are on my 2 gig sd card.

MP3s on SD Card

Can you put MP3s on the SD card. I loaded some on and my 660 doesn't see them. I didn't know if there was a trick or if it couldn't be done.

Thanks

.

You need to be sure that they are actually MP3 format. Other formats (WMA, AAC, OGG, etc.) are not compatible with the unit's MP3 player.

MP3 Files

They are mp3 file extensions. I created an MP# folder on the SD card and put them in it.

ID Tags

Chances are the ID tags for Name, Author, Album, genre, etc, are not filled in. Right click on them on your computer and choose properties. Then fill in the fields so that you can see them on the GPSr.

All filled in. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I go to the player and click browse, and the files don't show up.

Playing MP3 songs while using the speed cams on SD card

Can I play songs loaded from my SD card since my POI's for red light cams are loaded also on the SD card?

Nothing?

After you hit Browse, you should get options to view by All, Album , Author, genre, etc. Are you not even seen the categories?

Yes

They are controlled by separate functions. Although the alert will take precedence when activated.

MP3's on card OK

If you are using the built-in audio alerts for the redlights, no problem. If you are using a custom mp3 alert, there is a bug that will cause mixups when both are trying to play. There certainly is no problem putting mp3's on the card.

I have the categories, but the songs from the SD don't show up. Just the songs from the unit memory.

Any chance you can post a screenshot of the file structure of the the SD card from your computer? Maybe we can spot something.

MP3's on Card and Nuvi

Did you go through the entire list in each of the categories? I don't know how they sort, but is there any chance they group by drive and then alphabetically? Since you know the mp3's on the Nuvi are working, why not move the first one to the SD card and see what happens? Or maybe move the whole folder there. You can always drag it back.

Hmmmm ... well, I don't see anything obvious.

What happens when you go to Browse > All ?

Do they still not show up? Any chance you can try a different card in the nuvi?

I did the browse all and they didn't show up. I just moved the ones from the unit memory to the SD and they no longer show up. Is there some special format that needs done to the SD card, or as long as it shows up on the computer is should show up on the 660?

No Special Formatting

None should be needed. I agree with MM -- sounds like the Garmin doesn't like that card. Has it read anything from it -- POIs, jpg's,etc? How big is it, and is it one of the new HC cards?

Empty card

I just put the card in and there isn't anything else on it. It was one I used in my Palm. I'll get another card and try that. I'll come back after I try another card.

Thanks
Mark

JPG Didn't Work Either

bentbiker wrote:

I just dropped a jpg on it and it didn't see that either. Even when I said to look on the card. It's a 1Gb card. It's a SanDisk Ultra II and doesn't say anything about HC. I've had it over a year.

So I'll try another card.

SD MP3 Issue

I loaded my 2GB HP SD card. No problem. I had to take my songs out of iTunes AACRClk->convert to MP3. After 687 MBs I get an error:0X80070052. Loaded music pulls from unit and SD without a care. Don't remember seeing anything about a size limitation.

Resolution. Copy card info to HD. Format SD as NTFS or FAT32. Factory setting is FAT. go figure. LOTS of people ticked over this error!

Just found out...

that I could not copy (unless I don't know what I'm doing, which is quite possible) my "CD Europe NT Full Coverage Vers 9 SD card" to another 2G SD card. Are these things copy portected? I wanted it for my Nuvi 350. I will be taking my 350 and 360 to France...just in case. I suppose I could just transfer the SD card to the Nuvi I use that day???? Just wanted to save the hassle...I guess.

transferring files

Other than the manual slide, it shouldn't be restricted. You may have a password situation on the file.

They're not copy-protected, as such - it's just that the copy won't work!

Garmin use the serial number of the SD card - so if you put the data on another card, the unlock code no longer matches.

It's the Ultra II that's the problem. It's not compatible with your GPS unit.

Ultra II SD Card

Garmin doesn't support Ultra II SD Card at this time. Motorcycle Mama is correct.

SD Card

I put all the POI on a 1M SD card and have had no problems except every time it powers up it asks to transfer to internal memory. The only thing I put on the system is a new vehicle which matches what I drive thanks to those that generate new vehicles. It just seem safer to put everything on the SD card since it can always be erased.

Hey, thanks ....

..for your reply. I had absolutely no idea if it would work of not...it didn't! I did not want to go through the expense of purchasing an additional SD Nuvi France SD card, oh well!
