As a new user of GPS, I am surprised when the currency converter does not work. The rate update is correct, but the conversion page seem to have nothing to do with it. It turns out the currency converter is a known and common issue. Not really a big deal for me, but asked the tech support anyway. I was directed to revert to firmware 5.3 and then do a master reboot. It did not fix the problem. Whoever is using firmware 5.3, do you have a functioning C/C? Are all the units wrong or just some? I have nuvi-350. Thanks.
Try this.

I also have a nuvi 350 and it is wrong. I posted in a different thread a bunch of conversions that help make the adjustment. But remember that the currency exchange rate is always changing so you would need to verify before you go to that country. See my post here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8577
The numbers were accurate on the day I posted it. Have not checked recently though.
Garmin Not Interested
I've written to Garmin on this 3 times.
1. They acknowledge it is a "known issue".
2. It's been months and they have made no effort to fix it.
Kinda' makes you lose interest in them too!
Paul, Saw your post, thanks.
Paul,
Saw your post, thanks. I agree, the C/C is not really useful anyway. Maybe Garmin can replace that with something more of value.
If you want the converter to work
I realized when I posted the exchange rates in the other thread I did not mention how those numbers are achieved.
If you want the converter to work and calculate correctly (until they fix it) this is what you need to do.
Find out what the country's "current exchange rate" is where you are going. Multiply that number by 3.676471. Take that answer and enter it in your currency converter "update" screen for 1 USD = that answer.
i.e. To update USD to EU:
Todays exchange rate is 1 USD = .64599 EUR.
3.676471 x .64599 = 2.37496
Now go to Currency converter in nuvi and select USD to EUR then click update. Where it says 1 USD = "___" touch the field and type in 2.37496and click save. The screen should now say 1 USD = 0.645 EUR. Now it should be calculating correctly. You will need to obtain the current exchange rate at the time of your travel.
Hope that helps you since it has been quite some time they have been looking into this.
Constant = 3.676471
Just a reminder for some people headed to Europe and other countries. The above post has how to actually make use of your currency converter.
