Chit Chat Thread for the week of May 5th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Ya - happy Cinco de Mayo

Ya - happy Cinco de Mayo------ drink lots of Petron

I love this time of year

Cinco de Mayo is a very special time of year for Jon and I.

If it had not been for the celebration happening at the downtown Portland OR waterfront in 1993, we may have never met.

So we are going to have lunch on Friday and celebrate the 15th anniversary of the day we met. The 8th of May is one of my favorite days of the year, I actually hold it as more important then our wedding day.

I am pretty excited!!!

Way to go!

Cinco de Mayo

Well, Had a somewhat somber and celebratory 5th...

I had to attend the funeral of a high school classmate, just as we were beginning the planning of our 20th reunion. BUT...We did throw him a traditional Irish wake, and made several toasts in his honor and partied like he would've wanted us to.

Anyway...Happy Seis de Mayo everyone....a.k.a. Hangover de Mayo.

I am not Miss Poi but here is your answer:

Short version:

Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico which commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces over French forces in May 5, 1862. It is not Mexico's Independence Day (September 16).

back from vacation

cool Well Its been a while since I've been here. We went on a cruise to the St Thomas, St Martin and the Bahama.

The battery on my Garmin 750 just didn't last long enough to get full usage of the unit. I did mark my ports as way points. I also check the speed of the plane on the flight down to Orlando from Manchester 578 max speed.

I think I'll stick to using my etrex Vista for tracking my route on the ship. At least I can change the batteries.

Have a nice week!

Here is what I heard and I'm sticking to it....
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000
jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico ,
which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its
stop in New York .
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever
delivered to Mexico . But as we know, the great ship did not make it
to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was
forever lost.
The people of Mexico , who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were
eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their
anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning,
which they still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known
of course, as Sinko de Mayo.
