Interesting First Trip

So I talked the wife into going out to eat at the Light House Seafood resterant. This place is way out in lower Alabama back woods and I had no idea how to get there. Looked under seafood on my Nuvi 350 and there it was, surprised me. So I introduced the wife to the Nuvi, cute she said but I not sure of this is a good idea, and how much did that cost. So off we go and when the Nuvi starting talking with an Australian accent it had her laughing with amazement. Well we made it and had a great meal. The interesting thing was that the Nuvi took a totally different route back home, wife had worried look on face. We made it and the wife is sold on it's worth. Would like to see more route options in the Nuvi, like use interstates as much as possible as in the Magellen. Any comments.

Interesting First Trip

Sure glad to hear you had a good first experience. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way. You may be interested in one of our first nuvi trips.

Trip options

k4vw,

I agree. I would like to see something like microsoft streets and trips has; 3 settings: 1) shortest route, 2) quickest time, 3) prefered roads- where you get to tell it what your prefered roads are. This may avoid the problem of "in the city" travel where you find yourself driving on a small city street that parallels a major throughfare.

Can be done on Nuvi

Setting preferences...

Select 'Settings' in the main screen, then select 'Navigation', and you can select a 'Route Preference' of "faster time", "shorter distance" or "off road"; you can also select 'Avoidances' of "traffic", "U-turns", "Highways", "Unpaved roads", "Toll roads", "Ferries", "Carpool lanes". You can also select a vehicle type - I've read other places that vehicle selection can impact routes selected - I have not played with that particular user setting.

Done that

I have played around with that a bit. I still think the one missing is the "prefered roads", where the usere designates the types of roads to try first. I don't beleive the avoidances adequately take care of that third catagory.

The "faster time" option

seems to take me on the interstates and primary highways as the preferred route, even though other roads/streets is shorter.

First Trip

Hey, thanks for all the nice feedback. I agree that the fastest is most likely freeways but I don't know that for sure. Guess I’ll pick a far-off destination and look at the route and see what it picked. Anyway, still playing with and enjoying the 350. Jim

On a side note. Next time

On a side note. Next time you're at the Lighthouse restaurant, try the chicken/oyster gumbo. It's good stuff.
