Garmin continues to disappoint (660 map display)

Went for a little day trip today and my Nuvi 660 continues to disappoint me. These are some pretty dismal screen shots of the 660 (would you accept a paper map of this quality?):

No road names:

Still no road names:

I guess if I was looking for a park:

Try pressing the "+" symbol

Try pressing the "+" symbol a few times to zoom in closer.

Or

Go into the settings and adjust for more detail...

Ug

Yes, you can zoom in, but the area you are looking at becomes too small. That was set to max detail.

Road names do display, but really there is no reason that several names on the in city picture could not be displayed instead of the park names, and almost every road should be labelled in the two country pictures.

I agree

Go into the settings and adjust for more detail...

Mine works fine.

3d view?

does more detail show up for you if you go to 3d view?

It seems that details shows up at different zooms levels between 2d & 3d modes.

Already set to MOST

The map detail was set to MOST in those screen shots.

Don't like 3D

I had never been wild about 3D mode, but since Garmin removed the map scale from the 660, might as well give it a shot. I already noticed you don't get as much of a picture around you with 3d mode (pretty much the same thing with all gps's, not just garmin).

My first guess is that your in London, ON. Who needs road names anyway. If I'm wrong my second guess is Ottawa, Ont.

Different Route

neutral I am new to GPS and to this forum. We just used our Garmin Nuvi 660 for a 10 day round trip from Daytona Beach to Seattle. We traveled using the 660 and following along with a AAA map as back-up. Overall we are happy with the unit

Here is my question. Does anyone know why the unit routed us a major different way on our return trip?

By the way, we ignored the change of route on the return trip following our original route, much to the dismay of the female voice coming from the Garmin. We have nicknamed our unit "Exasparilla" .

Yes, it does disappoint

That is my observation. It appears these GPSrs are just "toys" and they act goofy when least expected. From the screen shots above, I see that your speed was 0.0. Maybe you were parked somewhere or at a stop sign or intersection and the receiver guessed you were going no where anyway. Maybe you were even visiting the parks listed in that area. So, no need for street names. Garmin can do better with its products. We should not be using our money to buy stuff that aggravate us.

Once or twice

I had this happen once or twice but it is rare for me. I added a waypoint along the route I wanted to take and that forced the gps to follow the route I preferred.
