Firefox and TableTools

Hi all,

If you guys are not aware of this extension for firefox, I wanted to alert you to it, as I have found it incredibly useful for compiling POI files. The extension is called TableTools and the link to it is:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2637

The feature that I use most for compiling POIs is "copy as CSV" and "copy as tab delimited"

An example of a website that this works great on is:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showtimes/theaters.htm?view=sta... or any website that lists their addresses in a similar format.

I hope this helps somebody out.

Take care,
Ryan

How do you use it

Added it, but don't see how to access it.

hey gpfoster... go to the boxofficemojo link i provided in the original post, right click on the table on the website. you should see an option that says "other table operations". mouseover that and you are in business.

No .csv option

Went there, right clicked, moused over - no copy as CSV.

What am I missing?

my apologies gpfoster. there

my apologies gpfoster. there is not a copy as CSV option like i originally thought... there is only a copy as tab delimited option... its not a big deal though since you can copy your information into excel as tab delimited and then simply save it as a CSV from the excel save as dialogue. if you cant figure out how to access the menu that i referred to in my previous post (you didnt make that clear) please see the following screen capture of what it should look like:

Thanks for the update

I loaded it and got it to work, but thought I was doing something wrong when the .csv option was missing. I am familiar with excel, so the conversion will be easy enough.

Thanks for the link, I believe it will come in handy.

PDF Files

Ohhhhhhhh........ I wish there was a utility such as this that would snag the info from a pdf file. I'm toying with the idea of creating a POI set for State Liquor Stores for states that only have state operated stores. When traveling it can be a real pain to find the things. Oregon has a list but it's a pdf file. Idaho has lists but, when I used the utility linked above, I got a fairly nasty looking data set. Nothing is ever easy it seems.

Convert pdf to excel

Thrak, just do a search in Google for "convert pdf to excel" and you will find what you need.

I found a really nice one right off but the demo only does 3 pages at a time. Works great though. I was going to continue looking for a freebie (may be a good one out there) when I saw an article about converting from .pdf to excel using Adobe Acrobat 5 - not the reader, the full program - which I just happen to have. I looked at it briefly and it seems to do a good job as well.

I'd have to fiddle around since the file I was playing with was on 6 pages and has a graphic header on each page, etc. which broke up the thing. I wasn't able to select the entire thing in one shot. I'll play with it and with maybe with distiller. If I can get it to work easily I'll use that. Otherwise, I'll go back and look for an easier conversion tool.

Many thanks for the suggestion. For some reason it never occurred to me that such a tool existed.
