Lake Maps on Nuvi 760?

Nubie here.

I just got my 760 today. I was poking around on Garmin's site and I ran across maps for inland lakes, and I'm wondering if those maps are only good for "marine" devices, or will they work on an "automotive" GPS?

Also, I coudn't find any info that told me the capacity of the internal memory of the 760. Does anybody know?

Lake Maps on Nuvi 760

From the Garmin site (http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/inland/compatible.html) it looks like the maps aren't compatible. As far as the internal capacity, when you connect it to your computer it will appear as another, removeable, drive. You can then see the total capacity and ammount of free space as if it were any other drive.

Mine is approx. 2 gb, but you can always remove some un-needed voice files to get some more space..

The DVD version of the maps is compatible with the nuvi line.

However, the product is listed as compatible with limitations. You will likely find that the depths readings don't show on the nuvi.

Also, it's advisable to be cautious with using the nuvi in this application as it isn't waterproof.

You can install maps from the DVD to a blank SD card and us that card in the GPS unit.

I thought of the trick on the computer after I asked the question, and after I shut everything down. I haven't had a chance to check yet, but it makes sense.

In all likelihood, I won't give the inland lakes a try. I'm just looking to not get lost on that giant lake, known as Powell.

I use my Nuvi while boating, but it works best in "off road" mode. Even then, it only offers point to point routing, which is usually fine on lakes. It does a nice job of "remembering" our favorite coves.
