Edge 605 + POI Loader, don't play well.

Well only got my Edge 605 recently, I've currently got a 1GB MicroSD in it (temp - I'm getting a 2GB soon) I've loaded on City NavNT Euro 2008 but only UK for now I'll wait for my bigger card before loading europe on ... the maps are stored on the card, that's great all works fine.

So anyway I want to try and load on more POI's I see quite a lot going round, so I bang in the USB run POI Loader, click Garmin device > K drive (MicroSD) > Install new > ...

Inside the folder I browsed too looked like this.

http://img395.imageshack.us/my.php?image=garmin02sl6.jpg

It tells me xxxxx points of interest have been loaded into the device, I boot the device and can't find them in the Where to? or on the map.

I tried loading the CSV's into Google Earth (after CSV > KML) and then looking for a POI in Google Earth and going there in my Edge ... but nothing.

Where would the POI's be located and do them little .bmp show on the screen too?

Thanks

The Edge doesn't support Custom POIs.

The reason that you are getting the "xxxxx points of interest have been loaded into the device" screen is that you are loading the to an SD card. If you look at the card, you should see a file named POI.GPI. But the Edge can't read that file.

Ah, thanks for that. What

Ah, thanks for that. What about if I wanted to import them as a waypoint or import a route?

Or how would I go about getting these onto my Edge?

Well, neither the manual nor the website indicate anything about the ability to send information from the computer to the unit only from the unit to the computer.

However since the unit has the ability to store routes, what I would try is to use the Garmin Training Center software (which is linked on the Edge 605 webpage). Save the route that you want from that site as a GPX. Then open the GPX in the Training Center and use the "Send to Device" button to see if you can send it. (Note that you might need to import it on the unit to get the unit to "see" it.)

Optionally, try copying the GPX file directly to the GPX folder on the GARMIN drive of the unit and see if it shows up.

Keep in mind that you will be limited by the memory space on the unit.
