Newbie Question

Greetings. Frequent lurker, first time poster. I'm a new Garmin user (650) and am planning my first long distance trip. I have used a couple of your POI files. For my trip I don't want to use the proposed route that my Garmin is suggesting. How to I map out an alternate route?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi, welcome aboard! I

Hi, welcome aboard! I really like Google maps and some of the planning you can do there. Let the system create a map from Pt A to Pt B. You can then add destinations (rt click) or drag the blue routing line around. It's a very cool feature.

I guess you can create routes in mapquest and send them to your GPS assuming it has "routes" capability. Google will be adding this feature.

Good luck.

You might want to give us a bit more info since there are many ways to force a different route. For instance are you talking about forcing a southern route across the country vs a northern route? Or, are you talking about taking a very meandering route to see very specific sites in 20 different cities? Your model doesn't support routes, so you might have to get a bit creative, but your single viapoint might be enough to force an obvious but slightly longer alternative route.

Yeah, because you don't have

Yeah, because you don't have routes in the 650, you will have to force the GPSr to go where you want. To do this, as stated above, you will have to save different "favs" and go from one point to the other. However, as stated above, you may be able to get away with just inserting a via point to make it go where you want it to go.

How can I program my Garmin Nuvi 200 to alert me ONLY for specific POI's? Im also having an issue getting the icons to appear along with those POI's. If someone could help, that would be great. Thanks grin razz surprised

Welcome Newbie

Great Pic!

I think you can only map it from point-to-piont-to-point instead of a "direct" route. I'll look into it further tonight.

Your have to name the icon file the same name as the subfolder except for the extension. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/11690 for setting up folders .
