Order of custom POIs

On my Garmin 360, I've installed a number of custom POIs (Thank you POI Factory!). It is a little annoying that the POIs are not in alphabetical order. Is there an order to how the POIs are listed on my Garmin?

I only have 3 pages of custom POIs, so it's not too bad, but it is annoying.

Sorry

The garmin is analphabet and doesn’t know how to do that, however it does know how to arrange them based on distance to your present location

50 closest

The Garmin show the 50 closest POIs.

If you set up different folders, they will sort alpha.

If you have your poi's in

If you have your poi's in subfolders the folders with the poi's will show alphabetical.Once you click on the title it will show the closest 50 individual pois.

Sorted

Custom pois, like all garmin poi, are sorted by location. So you get the closest 50 to you.

Do you have them in one folder, or in sub folders?

I found this works best for me

My Poi
- FOOD
- GAS
- STORES
- TURNPIKE

Then put the csv file into each catagory it belongs.

FOOD
- mcd.csv
- wendy's.csv

If you want to see a combined file of all catagories, the hit show all at the top, or do the same when in any of the folders for its information.

I have mine like

I have mine like this.

Garmin Pois=Main folder

Cracker Barrel =subfolder
>Cracker barrel. csv
>Cracker barrel. bmp
National parks =subfolder
>National parks.csv
>National parks.bmp
Smokey Bones= subfolder
>Smokey Bones.csv
>Smokey Bones.bmp
Sweet Tomatoes=subfloder
>Sweet Tomatoes.csv
>Sweet Tomatoes.bmp

I prefer to keep mine this way.Unless you get over 32 folders no need to combine with other folders.Less times also touching the screen but everyone has their on prefered method.

Ok...I am a newbie with a nuvi750. I hate to ask questions that are probably simple for all of you that already know, but after all, the only dumb question is one not asked....SO...how to you create the sub folders? I have downloaded several campground files already, but would like to add things like Flying J, and others. Thanks in advance.

.

Here's an example of how I do it.

Create a folder on your computer for your Custom POI files.

Create subfolders under your main folder on your computer, if you want. The folders will create categories. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory. When you run POI Loader, point it to the main folder as the source of the data.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.

This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my GPS unit.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.

You create the folders on your computer. If you follow MM's example, you would then load ALL you files at once with POI Loader by pointing at My POI as the source folder; the subfolders will then show up as categories under Custom-POIs on your GPSr.

Remember, every time you run POI Loader it replaces the current POI's with a new POI.gpi file. So, you need to load everything, every time you run the program.

Edit: If this looks repetitive of MM's instructions, that's because it is. I missed her wording in paragraph 3, I guess.

Ya know, I tried the subfolder thing with my Nuvi 660 and it didn't like the idea at ALL! Since then I've gone back to just one big file and it's much happier. Just an observation.

Thank you for the comments.

Thank you for the comments. I'll have to look into the sub-folders idea. I understood that you couldn't do that.

I have a POI directory that has all the .csv, .bmp, and .mp3 files that I download. In that directory, I have a directory called "current" where I drop all the POI and associated files I want downloaded onto my garmin. The POI Loader is then pointed to "POI_Files/current".

I'll try adding sub-folders in "current" based on the different POIs I'm interested in.

Just be sure if you do that, that you point POI Loader to the current folder because you can't have more than one level of subfolders.

Delete it just as if it were a file on your computer hard drive. The file you are looking for is \Garmin\POI\Poi.gpi.

Two ways...

One is when you first start the POI loader, you should have the option to either remove all the previous POIs or load POIs. If you remove them all, then that is the first way.

The Loader program actually replaces ALL the POIs in the unit with the new ones you are loading. So normally you would set up a folder of all your POIs and each time you add or change a POI file and upload, all those same POIs get reloaded.

So the second way is to simplyu remove that POI file from your folder of POIs that you load each time and next time you upload your POIs that one will be left out of the process and will be gone from the Nuvi.
