Chatty Charley thread for the week of April 14th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

1st post....on this thread...

Another week, another thread....

Trying to recover from the Blue Ridge Wine Festival in Blowing Rock, NC. It was great, the tasting tent could've been organized and handled better, but everything else was great. Definitely going back next year.

That's right... I just hope it cools back down before November this year! I'll miss not being able to sleep comfortably just with the window open.

Just came back from a weekend trip from Atlanta to Tampa and back. My nuvi 650 did well on the road, but once I got to Tampa, it was recalculating very frequently. Oh well, can't wait for my 750 and see if it's any better.

Back from Seattle

after picking up the kids at SeaTac last night.

Took 'em ferry riding last night and this morning. Now I'm home.

Monday Monday

Well, things are going good here in Central Florida. Finally got my truck back after 6 weeks in the body shop because: the woman who rear ended me at 50 miles an hour was reaching for her cell phone. And just think, the Florida legislature failed to pass a "no cell while driving law" this past month because they didn't want to offend anyone. Anyway, we had a cold snap last night, low was 55 degrees. surprised

Any new GPS toys coming out

Any news of any new toys?

Very Tempted

Expecting a refund from my income tax return and am very tempted to go out and purchase a GPSr that supports downloading routes. For health reasons I may not, my wife will kill me if I went out and spent several hundred dollars on another tech toy grin.

Mr TourGuide

johnm405,

Yah! I sort of like TourGuides because I found that they alert a little differently than speed or redlight POIs. I like the fact that you can put in the distance you want to be alerted and don't have to worry about the speed factor (Prompt Distance = 36 seconds * Speed). You get what you ask for. And also I use them on divided roads Such as interstates and make them directional.

I also have the other kind of POIs too. But they are very limited in just how you can make them alert you.

Always, and it works great.

The only change I have to make is the vehicle icon. I use a blue arrow, which is difficult to see against the blue water. This weekend, I used the Black Pearl.

I will have to give it a try the next time we are up there. Going up for Sea Fair the first part of August. I also use the blue arrow, guess I will change that when I get there.

I get to mow mine year-round down here, just not as often in the winter months. Of course, I don't own a snow shovel. razz
