red Light Cameras

Once I install the Red Light Cameras on my gps will it be active all the time or how will it notify me that I am coming up on a Camera?

Nuvi 260w

If you used the poi-loader in the manual mode, you will notice that the red light cameras alert based on a distance and the speed cameras if you are over a certain mph.

Your nuvi will ding and the top line will turn red displaying the alert. After passing the intersection the alert will dissapear.

It is active all the time, unless you turn off alerts under Proximity alerts in screens after hitting the wrench.

Audio Alert?

I have a follow-up question:

Can you add an mp3 audio alert? If so, just one or can you have one for red light cameras and another for the speed cameras?

Yes and Yes

The mp3 alert can be the same or different, but either way, there must be two separate audio files and the names have to match the POI filename (except for extension).

Important Tip

"NOTE: The default setting on many computers is to "hide file extensions for known file types". If this is the case on your computer, just make sure the part of the name that is showing is exactly the same (e.g., "redlight-camera" and "redlight-camera" ). You should not need to add .csv or .bmp to the file name"

I thought you could...

I thought you could. I also remember that the filenames have to be the same, except for the extension. I un-hid the file extensions in WinXP a long time ago. I'm an old DOS person... I'm used to seeing the WHOLE filename. laugh out loud

I equate to hiding extensions to trying to operate the computer with a blindfold. Why would you want to not see hidden files or hidden extensions. It is a rhetorical question for all those jumping up to tell me of the dangers of showing such info to get confused easily -- they should not be allowed to operate a computer.

As far as being an OLD DOS person, I swore the gui was a horrible idea because nobody really understood what was taking place without being able to see the structure -- 2% of the population would still be using computers if DOS had remained as I wanted. smile

Amen to both

Two things that I like about DOS, one more keyboard dependancy. Two, the entire file path and file name.

But remember the saying...

"Windows is DOS in drag" well at least it use to be.

The reason

I didn't say anything about the mp3 alert because his unit, nuvi 260w does not support mp3 files.

But yes I have alerts for rest area, speed and redlight - and they are all different. I also have some "fun" files for when my wife and I take some of the church kids to camp - Like tada for toll gates, hallelujah for when we arrive etc...
