Search history?

I was wondering if there's a way to show previous search history. Let's say I wanted to find Walmarts. I would go to my location and spell out "Walmart", choose a location, and go there.

Now if I wanted to go to a different Walmart I'd have to repeat the same process and type it "Walmart" to search again. Does the Garmin C330 come with a history of previous spelled locations? I'm guessing not but I thought I'd ask anyways

.

Nope. I'm not aware of any current Garmin unit that saves searches.

The closest you can get to this is the Recently Found list, but that's no what you are looking for.

.

Under -Where to?
-My locations
-Recent Selections
Is the closest thing to what your looking for. Shows the last 50 you looked at.

save as a favorite?

You could save it as a favorite location, that way it at least won't be cycled out of your recently viewed file once it is full.

At first

At first, I was going to say the same thing, but I think that what he is after is that he can go back to the search and find the "walmart" search again so he wouldn't have to type it again. Sorta like in windows when you type in a form, and then go back, it will list all the u have put in that field. Such as going to google and typing in "walmart" and then go the website and then go back to google and typing in "W" and "Walmart" appears.

As MM said, I am not aware of any such feature in the garmins.

On my Nuvi 760 when I type

On my Nuvi 760 when I type in text in the keyboard dialog box, the last words I have typed for a search are retained. Touching the file folder icon to the left of the text window at the top of the screen brings up a list of the last words I entered. For example:

-Where to?
-Points of Interest
-Shopping
-All Shopping
-Spell

Now touch the file folder icon and bring up a list.

It appears that there is a different list saved for each of the areas I search. i.e. a different history for Shopping, Fuel, etc. and you may need to actually perform a search for the history to be retained.
Is this the type of functionality you are looking for? I can not speak for any other model, but the 760 (I assume all 700 series) appears to do what you are asking.

.

Cool. Can you post a screenshot of that?

Diddo...

I'd like to see that feature.

Please bear with me on this.

Please bear with me on this. I am fairly new to my Nuvi, and to this forum as well, and I haven't yet figured out how to do everything, but I am very curious and determined to learn it all grin . I have figured out how to get my screen shot, but I haven't yet sleyed the 'Post an Image" dragon yet. Have you the "Cliff Notes" version of how to post an image on this frum? Otherwise it will be just a bit whilst I figure it out.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

yeah, please post, would

yeah, please post, would love to see that. It is about time for it to do that if it is working like I think you are saying.

You can't post an image directly here, but if you upload the image from your computer to tinypic.com, the site will give you a link that you can paste here. Then the users here can click on the link and see the picture.

I knew that, I didn't

I knew that, I didn't actually mean post here. But thanks for the clarifiication

Sorry, asianfire, I wasn't responding to what you posted but rather to what tfelber posted, I just didn't want a big quote box.

Ok here it goes, I hope it

Very cool.

Thanks.

Yeah, that is cool, I didn't

Yeah, that is cool, I didn't realize that the 7xx did that. Man, now I want one...lol. They should have done that a long time ago.

To continue a bit further

To continue a bit further with this, if I type in ‘Wal’ and then touch Done. The appropriate results are displayed. If I back out of those results, without selecting one of the returned results, and then go back to the spell search box, ‘Wal’ is not retained. However, if I do the exact same sequence EXCEPT select the Wal-Mart store, the entire word ‘Wal-Mart’ is then retained in the search history and not just the ‘Wal’ that I typed in. Also, it appears that only the last 5 searches are retained and then only those that you actually select.

Yeah they definitely don't

Yeah they definitely don't have that folder icon in the C330... I've been driving around with my GPS all weekend and it seems pretty cool. It didn't know a Walmart that was opened almost 2 years ago so the map's a bit outdated.

Do u guys know how to check what map version I have on my model? I might try to call Garmin & ask nicely for a free update since I just bought it.

Also it'd be nice if it could pronounce the street names instead of me having to look up at it to read it but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. The C340 with the street name feature was like an extra $50-60 >_<

Where is this Recently Found list? Are you talking about the "Recent Locations" list? I know you can push the "back" button and backtrace to the a found list but once you decide on a location, and select "GO" I have no idea how to get back to this list without starting another search and typing in "Walmart" again.

.

Yeah, I was referring to that list. It has different names on different units.

As I said, most of the units don't save the search terms. The 7xx does it as was posted above. But lower units don't have that interface.

Map version

You can (at least on the 350) go into your settings and under "Map", you see an "about" button which will tell you the map version that you have.

For me, TTS(street names) is worth the extra money.

I love to have this feature on my nuvi 360
