Another Instance of GREAT Garmin Service

Recently I had a problem with my Nuvi 660 in that it wouldn't make any sounds out of the internal speaker. It also wouldn't make any sounds via the FM transmitter. I had been using the headphone jack to pipe the audio to my car stereo system, and maybe during one of my connection/disconnections, something got knocked loose inside. The unit thought that there were headphones connected, and I couldn't do anything else with the audio.

I emailed my question to Garmin from their website, and after a couple of back and forth attempts at troubleshooting (I had already taken all the actions they suggested, including a hard or factory reset), the tech stated that since I was only a little bit out of warranty (I purchased the unit in Dec 2006), they would cover it under warranty. I sent the unit to them earlier this month, and got it back yesterday (25 March). They had sent me another unit, most likely a factory refurb with a different serial number.

Today, I called Garmin Tech Support because my renewal of the traffic service didn't indicate on this unit, and the tech provided me with a new code to get the traffic working again. And I'm guessing that the 12 months will run from today vice last December/January when I purchased the renewal. Oh yeah, the unit also arrived with the 2008 maps, where I had the NT8 on the one I sent them.

The only thing I needed to do was update the software to v4.30. I'll add in my waypoints and other customizations when I get home. For automotive GPS units, I have nothing but good things to say about Garmin.

You might want to make sure it is registered to you.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I did that while I was on the phone with the tech. It now lists the new serial number AND the unlock code for the 2008 maps. AND the unlock code for the NT8 maps if I ever needed them.
