Favorites creted in Nuvi vs. Waypoint created in Mapsource....

I noticed that when I save an address as a Favorite in my Nuvi, the address is retained and shows up in the favorite. If I create it in Mapsource and then download it into the Nuvi, only the name shows. Can anybody verify this?

Yep. That unfortunately is how it works.

Mapsource

Mapsource writes the address into the <cmt> field instead of the various 'address' fields. The Nüvi 7xx discards comments in Favourites.
Mapsource knows about the address fields, because it preserves them in any data it reads. It just doesn't provide access to them.

Tools for Excel -> POI PHONE NUMBER conversion

Folks,

I have a spreadsheet of friends and family addresses. I have used geocoding online resources to get the lat/lon (and swapped the columns for lon/lat in the .csv files.

Here the unknown though ... anybody know how to add the phone numbers to the .csv so that my Nuvi 660 can dial them? (I have bluetooth working)

Thanks!

.

The file needs to be a properly formated GPX in order for the phone numbers to be dialable.

Check out Phil's site for more information.

Favorites - just a temp storage area

And that is why I use Favorites as a temp storage place. All others, go into custom poi files.

This is what I've started doing too. I have MapSource files saved under various categories and file names for easy access and updating. I create the waypoints then save as .gpx in my POI folder. I can then use POI Loader to load any new files or updates to the custom POI folder in my Nuvi. It keeps the Favorites from getting too cluttered, and it's easy to only upload the files that I currently want in as POI's, and in the process, delete any from the unit that are not needed... but I still have them on the PC for future reference.

By doing it this way I can add the address, phone number, what ever I want to the entry and it shows when I bring it up in the Nuvi
