Windmill Question

I tried to find answer to this question searching forums with no luck.

I was just wondering about the windmill PIC on right and its importance on this site.....

Being Dutch, I had the same

Being Dutch, I had the same question when I first started visiting the POI Factory. Here is the emailed response I got from Miss POI:

"When we started this company we wanted the POI Factory name and started to think about logos that would work with the word Factory but that wouldn't give the image of a dirty stinky plant, so we went with wind energy;)"

Mouse_over them

The easiest way to see is to mouse_over them, However the windmill is a active member.

Pic

I think the OP is asking about the picture of the windmill in the column on the right of every page -- not the icons or membership. I hadn't heard the explanation about wind energy for the Factory.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

.

Here's what JM said in the last thread that I linked.

The logo we have now is something I quickly photshopped from the windmill image in the right column.

Miss poi and I kind of like the windmill theme because it gives expression to the "factory" part of the POI Factory name, but we're open to other concepts if they would better communicate the nature of the site:

POI Factory is a place where GPS users get together and share locations. Mostly, the site is about having fun, helping each other with questions, and sharing places that you find interesting or useful.

The size seems to be about right, and I like using a static image (rather than animation). We want the meaning to focus more on places and people rather than techical stuff like satellites & GPS receivers.

Things we don't like -- The image is too complex, and the colors are not quite right for the site. It doesn't scale down well to small icon size (16 x 16).

Right now, I'm just looking for ideas -- I don't want anyone to sink much time into something before we have a solid concept.

Anyone else have thoughts / ideas?

JM

correction

well, thanks guys for quick answer.
I know about Windmill badge-that means active member status. I was questioning about why windmill why not treadmill or clothmill?

And my expectation was may be owner of the site belongs to Holland (in Europe or in Michigan). smile

I am passionate about windmill since childhood. Nothing personal about it, just little couricity.

I can understand why no one would want to see an old, dirty factory picture. But maybe you don't have to settle for a picture of an even older (although clean) Dutch factory. Here's an updated version:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_farm

Of course, in the U.S. there are modern, clean, high-tech factories producing software, which is more closely related to GPS's than wind. But I don't know if a picture of the Microsoft, Oracle, or Garmin building would be very interesting.
