Recomondations? (low price gps / c340 / nuvi)

I am looking for opinions on a low price gps. My GF's sister borrowed my sc340 and loved it, I only own it for a few months but I am now the "expert"! I am assuming the Nuvi 200 series is comparable to my 340.

thanks in advance.

Go to garmin

You can compare features:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

Looks like the nuvi200 or 200w will do tts.

Good inexpensive units. Will

Good inexpensive units. Will say Turn in 100 feet, etc, but not by street name.

The 200W has the larger screen.

GPS

I love my Nuvi 350. It is $250 at amazon.

My mistake

I didn't think that the 200 series did street names like the c340 - and I looked at the wrong line. You will have to move up to the 300 series probably for the street names.

I apologize for the mistake. I have liked my c550 and c580 units. They are just like the c340, but with mp3 and bluetooth. If you don't mind the size they are a little cheaper sometimes than the comparable nuvi's.

No, some of the 2xx (like the 260) series will do TTS.

The Nuvi should have a better antiglare screen then the c340. But the audio won't be as loud or clear.

Agree totally. The 350 has the small package, TTS, and the other bells and whistles. It was the best GPS I have owned (till I got my 750). One great thing about the 350 is that there is a users manual available for it. None of the 200 series has other than a start up guide.

yes and no

I just got my c330 a few weeks my first GPS after I got it I found out that the c330 is no longer being made and the same for the Nuvi 200. the Navi 200 w is replacing the 200.
My c330 stopped working this morning so when I got home I called Garmin. She thought it was a frozen screen but it would not reset. At first she said that she was going to replace it with the Navi 200 and that they where the same. Then she ask me to hold. when she came back on line she said for get what I just said we are going to send me a new c550 as a replacement. I love Garmin

Nüvi 350

I've always thought 350 as the nice balance of features and the price. And the way the price is dropping these days, that's what I'd recommend.

I like my Nuvi 760. Had it for 3 months and has worked great. If the 2009 maps are coming out in April you may want to wait and get the latest. Also might check "cnet.com" to find price comparisons.

Garmin Nüvi 650 $299.99 at Costco

Low price GPS recommendation

Costco has an even better deal on a far more robust GPS unit - The Magellan Maestro 3225. They are selling it for $149.99 through the end of March. That price includes an instant rebate of $50.00 taken off at the cash register. The 3225 is more feature rich than the Nuvi. It has text to speech - it tells you the name of the road you will be turning onto, it also speaks the name of a POI that you are approaching if the POI category is set to alert, etc. It has the fast chip set - it will acquire the satellites in a matter of seconds. It has 2G of onboard memory, and also has an SD card slot. It shows the POI's on the moving map. Seems to have a lot of horsepower for the money.

I bought one and love it.

Nuvi 260<$235 at Amazon, speaks street names, has US/Canada maps

Also, if there's no big rush, the nuvi 255 (coming out sometime in the next couple of months) looks like it will have all the features of the nuvi 260 and a similar price point. So, if you wait, you could choose between the "old" nuvi 260 at a very good price or the "new" nuvi 255 at (presumably) a higher price (though a lower model number).

Or, avoid the wait and get the 260 now for a good price.

Last note: Garmin's website states that new maps are coming in late April. That may (or may not) be another reason to wait a couple of months, regardless which model you get.

I am seeing them this

I am seeing them this weekend and I will be able to show them all the opinions posted here so they can decide what they want to do, I know its not a big rush to get one so waiting till next month may not matter.

Again
Thanks for all your help, I will let you know what they decide!
