Loading POIs to SD card in Magellan Maestro 3225

With Magellan Maestro 3225 connected to PC(Windows XP service pack 2) via USB and SD card inserted in 3225, my PC does not see the SD card. I can load MGLN files to the internal memory of the unit, but not to the SD card. So far as I can tell, the SD card is only good for backup and restore purposes on this model. Anyone have a different experience with 3225?

I don't have a Magellan but what I do is use a card reader. Do you have one to try and load them that way? I never load any POI connecting the unit to the PC, only the SD card in a reader.

Never mind

I discovered that the easiest and maybe only way MGLN POI files can be loaded to the SD card is by inserting it into the PC's card reader. Then you can just copy and past them to the SD card like you would any file. I created a "CPOI" folder on the SD card and put the MGLN files there. Then I put the SD card back into the 3225, booted it up and presto, all the files appear in the "enhanced poi" section, just like they should.

edit - Right after I posted this, I noticed Deerhtr had already posted the same advice. Thanks, Deerhtr

Now after doing all that, I'll bet that your PC will "see" the card through the GPS too.

In order to see the card, it must be installed in the GPS and cold booted BEFORE you connect to the PC.

Alas, if that were only true. I tried doing just that, but the card is still MIA. Fortunately, it really doesn't matter now, since it's just about as easy to load through the card reader as to hook up the MM 3225 to the PC.

Maestro 3225 best price yet?

And if Costco is not an option, BJ's Club has them for $149.99. The one I just bought there came with the latest firmware version too. Upgrade the unit with the larger POI file that's available and you're good to go. So what's not to like?

How do you know that you have the latest firmware version?

Checking firmware version

The consensus over at

seems to be that Version 1.36 is the latest. I was able to check the version on my MM 3225 by first going to "user options" then "system settings" then tapped "next" and finally "product information".

dharma41 I got the same

I got the same issue and no luck... the only thing I was able to do was to do a Backup of my files then store this info into the SD card and then on my PC extract the files for save keeping...

No luck on saving the Custom POIs into the SD... By the way I also have 1.36 as firmware.

Now on my MAc I don't even see the GPS!

SD Card Not Reading

I just bought a 3250. I loaded POI on a card and it seemed to work okay. I added more but they weren't there when I checked on the GPS. To make a long story short, create the POI on the PC and power up the GPS. Load your SD card and then go to POI. It works every time. I load the PC card in the PC powered up and so I figured what the heck, try it on the GPS. If I load it then power on the GPS it seems like it "assumes" no changes were made. It works every time loading it after power up and so far, no problems !
