Getting the RedLight POI files to work with Garmin c550

Hey guys,

I have a Garmin c550 and used POILoader to load a custom red-light camera file onto my GPS unit. I set it to alert 1370 ft. ahead of the camera. I tested this out today driving around town, and I was alerted about none of the cameras. Any suggestions? Thanks

More information, please

Where did you get the file?
Did POILoader indicate the files were loaded?
Did you load an MP3 with the .csv to act as the alert message?
Do you have proximity alerts turned off?
Do you have the latest firmware update?

Quick Check of whether they are on the unit

What happens when you look under Custom Pois, choose one, and then choose Show Map -- does the POI icon show up in the middle of the road when you are zoomed all the way in?

If they are not there -- you didn't use POI Loader to load another file after loading the RedLight file by any chance, and thus overwrite the just-loaded Redlights, did you?

If you'd fill in your address on your profile, you'd have a good chance of somebody in your area verifying that the location triggers on their unit (assuming you are using the POI Factory file).

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Double check

Have you downloaded an mp3 file to play or icons? If you haven't then it will just ding and the green traffic bar will turn red. If you have downloaded the accessory files, make sure that they are named exactly the same (redlight-camera.mp3 or whatever).

The other thing to check is that you must unzip the download file. Inside you will find two csv files. Extract those to load.

If you go to extras, poi, redlight camera or whatever - are there locations close to where you live? We may not know about your locations yet.

Sorry for the ambiguity...but....

Bentbiker,

I think you nailed my mistake for me...the custom-poi's were overwritten when I uploaded additional ones. So basically, I need to keep all of my POI files in one folder, so that when I want to add more they are all there to upload again? Thanks for the help...I'm going to go road test it in a bit but at least now they do show up under custom POI and an Icon shows when I select one. Thanks again

In Phoenix MSA by the way....plenty of cameras to be on the lookout for twisted

See ...

You don't have to overwrite the POIs. See this FAQ:

Glad you are up and running. As for a single folder, I'd recommend a single POI folder with lots of sub-folders. One sub-folder would be Cameras and contain redlights.csv, redlights.mpe, redlights.bmp, speed.csv . . . Other sub-folders would be Food, Rest Areas, Auto Repair, etc. You could keep everything in a single folder but you then have to scroll through many pages of filenames on the GPS to get to what you are interested in. Also, I think it is easier to update the individual files if they are kept in their own folders.

Just remember to point to the parent folder, POI, if you go the route of sub-folders.

Setting up POI's for cameras

Hello all. Am new to the forum and need to ask a noob question. I need idiot's instructions for how to set up these camera POI warnings in my Zumo 550. I downloaded the file from this site and used the POI loader to send them to the Zumo. At this point I am stymied. How can I display the POI's on the Zumo before I go ride? Any help would be appreciated.

What is your question? If you have loaded them with POILoader, then you are good to go. It will alert you when you get within a 1/4 mile of the redlight camera.

If you have other questions, please be specific. We are here to help.

MM has a Zumo so she may want to add to this.If you just want to display on your GPS touch Where to,My Locations then extras to see your custom Redlight locations. The csv file has redlight in the title so the alert is for 1/4 mile.
