Does Color Mode calculate sunrise/sunset?

What a great-looking and extremely helpful web site! I have already found on this site most of the answers I was looking for.

(This is my very first post to the site.)

Here's a question for which I did not find an answer: The "Color Mode" on my StreetPilot c340 can be set to a light background ("Daytime"), a black background ("Nighttime"), or it can be set to automatically switch between the two modes ("Auto"). Does anyone know how it decides exactly when to switch modes? My guess is that it possibly calculates sunrise and sunset times based on my physical location and the date, but I can't find any documentation to that effect.

You are correct - in auto

You are correct - in auto mode, it switches at sunrise/sunset based on your location. Kind of a neat feature.

I find it a bit distracting

I find it a bit distracting when I am driving and the change occurs. Highly entertaining to watch but I probably should be watching the road.

Just something I noticed...

I've decided (for now) that I don't like the black background, so I changed my setting to "Daytime." This led me to notice that the c340 will still automatically change the screen's brightness to 30% at sunset, then back to 100% at sunrise. I'm sure that would be frustrating to some people, but I think it's pretty cool.
