Garmin Traffic Service

I am curious to know if anyone else uses the Garmin Traffic Service and what they think of it. I drive mainly city roads in Washington, DC and there is virtually no information via the service. Is it limited to highway circumstances? Thanks.

Traffic Service

RKF I can only give you one data point. I am from the midwest but was in LA last week. We were going from Agoura Hills CA to LAX. As we went down 101 we got a traffic alert and we re-routed down Ventura Blvd (wasn't great but moving). Then routed on the 405; again traffic alert and re-route. The person traveling with me said we would have never made our flight if we hadn't had the traffic info on the Nuvi. So far I'm impressed but it does seem to work mainly on the major highways.

BTW I can confirm that taking the 660 from eastern to west coast time zones the clock does not reset on its own; you have to reset it.

Thanks

I appreciate all of the feedback - thanks.

In DC, only the beltway,

In DC, only the beltway, 270, 66 and 95; and Route 100 around Ellicot are plotted.

If the traffic isn't plotted on this site, it won't appear on our GPS.

Not widely supported

My job takes me all over the world and I take my NUVI with me now, every where I go. The traffic service is rather limited as to the coverage areas, but when I do get into a coverage area it has been awesome. I will definately renew my subscription when my trial runs out.

Just doublechecking what I've discerned

Deepstryke, am I correct that I *have* to buy a separate antenna for the traffic service? How cumbersome is it to travel with?

Antenna

It's not an antenna, it is an AC adapter. it is about 2" longer than the normal cirgarette lighter adapter. The transmitter/ receiver is in the plug part that you put into your cigarettle lighter. It is not bad to carry at all. If you go to the NUVI 660 site, go to accessories, you can see apicture of it.
