POIs in Mapsource

Just started playing around with Mapsource on my computer. While in Mapsource, I noticed all the various built in POIs displayed on the map.

1) If I download the Rest Stops POI from this site, how do I import that POI file into mapsource to view the rest stop locations on the map,

2) and, what do I have to do so that only the rest stop locations appear on the map and not all the other points of interest (if that's possible).

3) If that is not possible, is there a way to convert the Rest Stops POI file in order to view the locations in Microsoft Streets and Trips?

thanks

First,

Any POI's that you want to view in MapSource have to be in .gpx format. The Rest Areas POI is a .csv file, so it would have to be converted to .gpx before it can be used. There are applications which will do that, but if the .csv is not formatted right, all you will get are error messages. I've had a lot of trouble with this myself.

I also don't think there is any way to display only the POI file you want. The built in POI's can't be turned off.

The .csv file can be imported into MS Streets by using the data import wizard. It can then be viewed, modified that way. MS calls them "Pushpins" rather than Waypoints.

Thanks for the help. I

Thanks for the help.

I followed your instructions for MS Streets & Trips and it worked great. Was able to import the info ok and was able to see all the rest stop locations on the map.

Although Mapsource has it's uses, I think I'll continue to use Streets & Trips as well for this very purpose - to be able to verify POI locations visually.

Again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

POIs in Mapsource

just convert the poi csv file to a gpx file and it will work with mapsource then save the file in a folder and open map source and click on file open and locate your gpx file and map source will open it for you and you will see all your poi's listed

Tips...

I want to say thank you all for the info...I have not really been into the map source application since I spend way too much time at the PC..but I just had to try this with the Disc Golf test file and I have to say this is going to be fun and it's also going to suck more of my time into the PC...
