Getting Tracklog from a Nuvi 750?

A few weeks ago I bought a Nuvi 750? How do I get tracklogs off of it? A quick google search tells me I should use Mapsource, but since Mapsource didn't ship with it (the City Navigator data is builtin), I don't have Mapsource and it won't install.

Ideas?

.

You need to call Garmin and ask them to send you the program on disk.

Has anyone had luck with

Has anyone had luck with that? Customer support just told me the unit is preloaded with City Navigator NT, so I don't need mapsource.

Grrr.

.

Tell them that you have the 750 and that you want to use MapSource to plan routes and send them to the unit, download the tracklog from the unit, and that you want to use it to manage your favorites. Most people have been successful at getting Garmin to send it to them at no cost.

Tracklog or Trip Log

If its trip log, do the following:

Tools - My Data - Clear Trip Log

Don't know if that's what you are looking for?

No, the OP is trying to download the tracklog to the computer.

I wish I had the answer to your question because I share the same interest.

I am using a Mac and have ordered the "City Navigator North America NT for Mac" on DVD since Mapsource
is not a option for me either.

I don't know if the Mac Map will solve the issue since I have not received it yet. It was released a few weeks
ago and is a new item.

mapsource and map disks

you can download the mapsource program from the garmin site.

*Windows
http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapSource_6137.exe

*Mac
http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapInstallandMapManagerforth...

in mapsource, when you 'download from unit' the waypoints and tracks will be downloaded from the unit. you can then upload info back to unit using program also.

if your looking to get the maps that are preloaded on your unit, call support and request the disks - free. they check registration and ask for mail address... thats it. i'm waiting for mine grin

.

Doesn't the Tracklog on the 7xx just take the form of a .gpx file that can be copied from the unit in Windows Explorer?

Of course, having retrieved the file, Mapsource would be the first thing that springs to mind, if you wanted to view it on the PC. (Though other methods are possbile ... such as gpsbabel/Google Earth?).

Garmin Europe are continuing with their policy of not shipping Mapsource - even for 7xx owners sad
(Which seems like a move guaranteed to drive down sales, given that its use is clearly justified!)

Map Source

I don't know who you talked to at Garmin, but I have never heard this type of comment from any of the tech support there. MapSource is Free for all registered owners of Garmin NUVI GPS's. It does not ship with the GPS but is available at no cost to a registerd owner. MapSource comes on the CITY NAVIGATOR NT- North America DVD disk. When you talk to the tech support person he/she will tell you how to get the 25 digit key needed to access the programs after they are loaded on you computer.

When you call ask to speak to a tech support person associated wit the NUVI products.

I have used Garmin TECH SUPPORT many times over the last 5 years and have had a very good responce from all of them. In fact I would rate them as the highest tech support of all. I have used tech support fromn many venders sence 1978 when I purchased my first computer a TRASH 80 (TRS 80 radio Shack.)

I was referring to Garmin Europe who operate a different policy. I know of no one who successfully requested a copy of Mapsource.
See here for a typical example:

That's not an opinion I share sad

This sounds interesting to me, but I think I'm guessing at what a tracklog is. Can someone please fill me in?

Thanks.

No Routes for 6XX

It is a series of waypoints recorded while traveling so that you can look at your route when you stop. The 6XX series, sadly, does not support routes.

Mapsource DVD

I own a 650 and 750 and they told me I would have to pay $15 for Mapsource. I complained that it was a feature they advertise so they sent it for free. Not sure why they make it so difficult. I don't think the download is the actual program, just an update. There are some places on the web that outline how to DL another mapsource product (tutorial I think) and then successfully DL the update to have the complete software.

Do you know which websites show how to download the (Tutorial?)? Then we can go about this.

Thanks-

It's possible. On the Zumo, they are included in the current.gpx file. And they show up in MapSource and in TopoFusion, but not EasyGPS.

Yeah, seems ridiculous. Luckily, the OP appears to be in the US.

It Worked

Just got it, loaded the Map, unlocked it and downloaded "Beta" Bobcat from

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3885

and it worked... I was able to see every where I drove over the past week while using the Nüvi750 on the map I loaded to the Mac (OS 10.4.11). grin However, the Mac map was not free, Beta Bobcat is free.

To get Mapsource

You can download Mapsource update from http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209. It will not let you install unless you have a prior version of Mapsource installed. If you do not have a version of Mapsource installed, download and install Garmin Training Center from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99... and then install Mapsource.

Mapsource

Thanks for the info natgild.Mapsource now is functional but I have a question for anyone.Should I not see all residential streets??? When I load the current gpx file I see tracks and other data as expected but it appears I only see what I'll call major arterial streets and roads no matter what magnification I use. Anyone ??

bounder

It sounds like Mapsource is locked. To unlock select Utilities>manage map products>unlock region tab or unlock online. You will need unlock code.

You may want to refer to Mapsource help.
