Mounts

I read the other message thread on this subject and one of the responses referred to MountGuys.com. I went to their site and found a nice vent mount; ordered it and have been using it for about a week. I really like it so far and it was extremely inexpensive ($9.85 plus shipping). It puts the unit at lower eye level and (so far) the unit hasn't fallen off the mount.

Vent Mount

Is a vent mount easy/fast to remove? Or do you just leave the mount on the vent and remove the gps? The vent louvers in my Ford F150 appear to be thin and flimsy plastic and I'd be concerned that frequent insertion and removal might break them.

Try looking for the beanbag

Try looking for the beanbag friction mount. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Mount

I purchased a vent mount from here + ya'll see all the different mounts they have.

use a friction mount instead

I bought a vent mount from Mount Guys. You leave the mount on the vent and just remove the GPS. The vent mount can be removed to use in other cars, but it is not quick to remove it and then position it on a different vent in a different car.

While my NUVI 660 was on the mount, the mount often came loose, and on sharp turns the mount and the Nuvi 660 sometimes went flying--not good. The vent mount also broke some vent louvers when it popped off.

I now use the Garmin portable friction mount (available on Amazon), which works great in all my cars, and can easily be moved between cars.

Me, too, please.

Vent Mount

Thanks all for your suggestions. Thank you Smchar for sharing your experience with your vent mount. That is what I am afraid of, damaging my vent louvers moving a vent mount between 3 vehicles. I don't like anything on the dash or windshield to distract from my driving. I only want to buy one mount I can easily move between vehicles. I thought a lower mounting option would be best and I could just listen to the directions. I really like Pbereg's home built solution.
I did find the following lighter socket mount with an additional power dongle made by Arkon, part #GN097 for Garmin Nuvi available at Semmons for $15.00 plus additional shipping, also saw it offered on Ebay for around the same price.

The beanbag works best 4 me...

My vote is for the beanbag friction mount. Real easy to move from one car to the next, and it stays put when driving...

Go with the Bean-Bag

Go with the Bean-Bag Mount!

Never yet had a problem with mine-

Bean Bag Mount

Best general purpose mount on the market is the bean-bag mount. You can't go wrong with it.

Semsons seems to be cheaper

I checked the site. All the mounts seem to be cheaper and shipping and handling are also cheaper than the ones I bought from. Wish I had known Semsons earlier. I just may buy a backup charger for my NUVI 660 from them.

Vent Mount

How do they work in the winter vs. summer?

Is there any risk of overheating if you cannot stop the air to that particular vent?
