New & need help on Garmin nuvi780

Just purchased a nuvi780. Seem to encounter couple of "problems" and would be great if someone who is experienced with the unit could help:

1. Touch the GPS signal but could not get the GPS screen to activate. Had worked once but it seems either the left hand top corner is insensitive or there is some functionality that I am not aware of to get this working. Had exchanged for another unit but still encountering the same. Quite unlike the nuvi 680 which showed the GPS screen every time I touch that GPS signal. What is happening here?

2. On Bluetooth hands-free calls, the "Phone-Book" icon seems to have disappeared altogether. Not sure why it is - as the nuvi 680 will show the icon without problem. Is this subject to phone "opened" to share addresses via Bluetooth? Have set

3. Not sure the unit is insensitive or just can't get the function to work - can't seem to get the re-calibrate function to activate even after following the Garmin's rather awkward instructions to activate the re-calibrate function. Quite unlike the nuvi 680 which has that as a menu option in setup. Does anyone know why?

.

1) Are you sure that model supports the satellite screen? (which is what I assume you mean by the "GPS screen) The manual doesn't mention that functionality and not all models have it.

2) The phone book will only show up when the phone is actually paired with the GPS unit.

3) Are you talking about the touch screen sensitivity? I'm not 100% sure to what you are referring. To calibrate the scree you have to slide the power key to the right and hold your finder on the screen for 30 seconds until the calibration screen comes up.

GPS Signal

You have to press and hold for a few seconds.

Calibration

Also if you are trying to calibrate due to 1 then just press the satellite bars until you get the satellite screen.

1) Thanks and yes, I do mean

1) Thanks and yes, I do mean satellite screen. I know it is supported on the nuvi 780. I had seen it work on the 780 previously. There was also a recent article in the GPS Review comparing the nuvi 780 with the 680 - which compared satellite signal readings of both units.

2) The phone book did finally show up - think it has to wait till the entries are loaded - certainly took a very, very long time to load.

3) Thanks for the tips - I will try again.

Hi Steve,

If, by chance, you have an Apple iPhone, then update the phone to Firmware v1.1.4. Firmware v1.1.3 was constantly dropping the Bluetooth connection. Apple corrected that problem with v1.1.4 of the Firmware.

I have found these files to be the best bet if you want to know the exact exit numbers. The rest area combo file has most locations marked with the mile marker.
