Greetings

Saying hello. I'm new to this forum, but I have used automotive GPS for years. My first was a Garmin Street Pilot that cost a fortune. (Recently sold that on eBay) And have only used factory GPS systems since (both in Infinitys). The 2005 infinity was poor, the 2007 is a lot better.

I recently purchased a Magellan 3225 for $150 and I'm pretty impressed with the tiny thing.

One other thing about me is back in 2003 I was granted US patent number 6,662,106, "Navigation System That Takes into Account Dynamic Road Conditions". I sold my rights to the patent, but I see that our 2007 seems to be taking advantage of the concepts it covered.

Greetings.

Thanks to everyone...

For the welcome. I've been enjoying reading past posts and I'm going to be downloading some of the POI files, they'll be useful.

I had started to look into creating my own POI file for the redlight cameras in Houston. When searching for the locations (which I found), I came across this site. A bonanza! Someone's already done the work.

As for the patent, (you can find it on the US Patent web site), it was borne from the idea of mating my radar detector to by GPS. At first I was thinking of a nifty way of eradicating the constant (radar detector) falsing I was getting, but then I thought it would be neat if everyone with a GPS and radar detector had a way of instantly notifying others of speed traps. All in real time, via cellular broadband and a central server. Maybe someday that will happen.

My 2007 Infinity gives traffic flow information, it's noted by color of the roads. It will also warn me of accidents and construction. It will not automatically re-route me around it though. This 'service' costs about $3/month and is supplied by XM Satelite Radio.

"This is the first sign in the UK warning drivers not to follow their Sat Nav’s instructions. The village of Exton in Hampshire has had some negative experiences with wide vehicles driving through the village, sometimes only waking the inhabitants at night and sometimes damaging stuff along the way."
