What is capability - Nuvi 200 Custom POI's??

Newbie here...sorry I can't find an answer via searching....

I read spec sheets for Nuvi 200 and it says max # of custom POI's = 500. Is this assuming no SD card? Is this max POI count limitation eliminated when you add an SD card and leave it in the unit? I assume you can load the card with custom POI's using a PC with certain software app and then plug it in the Nuvi.

I would like to load a couple thousand substations sites covering a 50 x 50 mile area. I would also like to load a couple thousand custom sites with unique names scattered through this region. The Garmin user wanting to visit the site would know the exact name of the site and therefore search for it by tying in a few characters. Knowing which sites are closer to the user's current location is not so useful, so the default "sort by distance" feature is moot. All these sites I'm entering have unique names that I can search on.

what would be the best approach wrt software for SD card programming and folders etc?

I hear I should steer away from using "custom Favorites" for this effort and stick with custom POI's.

Any help appreciated.

POI

Don't confuse Favorites with POI, the maximum on Favorites is 500, custom POI are another story, heck some people here claim to have billions and billions custom POI loaded in their unit

500

Yes, that's 500 favorites. The number of custom POI's is limited only by memory available. My nuvi 200 came with 30 megs of built-in memory available. I deleted languages I didn't need and increased available memory to 57 megs. I have 31,000 custom POI's which use less than 3 megs of memory. I don't need to use an SD card.

That's very encouraging.

That's very encouraging. Sounds like I don't need an SD card for my custom POI's. Now on to searching threads about what PC software apps and interfacing I need to build custom POI's and move them onto my Nuvi.

thnx

Try these
