How to Start a POI

So far I have not found the info I'm looking for.

How to start a new POI file with my info loaded into it.

There is very little I can't do in DB's or Excel but I need a starting point. My online searches have lead me to all of you. I'm sure i have missed something but I do not have the knowledge at this point to really know what that is.

I travel all over southern Oklahoma from Thackerville to Pauls Valley to Ada to Hugo. About 1/4 of the state. There are places that I would like my new c330 to remind me that this is a Speed Trap or just generaly tell me to slow down at this point.

Please someone tell me where to start!!!!

Once you become a active

Once you become a active member you can download the red light cameras and speed cameras. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/262 you can also pay a small fee if you don't want to wait.Lots of files for download now that you may be interested in.Just look under poi files. If you have excel down you have all the tools you need to build your own custom POI'S and you can share that knowledge on this site.It would be a big help.

Thanks,

I just downloaded 2 files and looked at them. All I really need is the L/L numbers to build my own.

A Thought

Is there a place that I can put in an Address and get the L/L numbers?

This is what I used a

This is what I used a lot.You can do single address or batch. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoding.html .Also Google maps is good.Just establish a free account and create your own maps that you can download http://maps.google.com/maps and Takitwith me http://www.takitwithme.com/ to convert Google maps.
One more good one to try that a member on this site came up with http://www.cthreepo.com/poi/

Columns of Information

I imagine a POI file can be set up on a spreadsheet with columns of information for each POI. What would be the titles to all the columns so I can create a POI file?

Then is there a program that will turn the Spreadsheet into .gpi file?

Glad to be here!

.

Welcome to the site.

Be sure to click on the getting started and faqs sections linked at the top of each page.

Check out this page to see the proper format for the POI files. You don't need titles on the columns.

Here's the faq page for making POI files.

As to the GPI file creation, that's what POI Loader does when you run it.

It takes your POI file(s) plus any icon and sounds (optional) that you want to associate with the POIs and creates the POI.GPI file.
