It loads through line 1142, but won't load line 1143 because it's nothing but commas. Open up the file with Notepad, remove the commas following last entry, and resave it. Or use http://PoiVerifier.com to correct the file. This is one of the common mistakes that happen when using Excel. Unless one selects and deletes several rows following, and several columns following, the data it will sometimes enter extra commas.

Miss POI, you may want to correct this file.

Opened in CSVed it showed ",,," (three commas) on line 1143. (deleted same then opened fine)

Opened in PoiEdit2007 it got an error of "...HOOVER is an invalid floating point..." There are two station locations with Hoover in the name..

Anyway, that doesn't help you in the least since you're unable to download the file.

Maybe try right-clicking the file and selecting Save Target As from the context menu..??

POI Loader

POI Loader (or Garmin Custom POIs) don't care if all of the entries are called 'Hoover'; so that isn't the problem. As mentioned in my previous post, the problem is the extra commas.

He's referring to 'Downloading' as uploading to his GPS because he's having a problem with line 1143.

When using Excel, if all authors would select and delete several rows following, and several columns following, the data these extra commas would be eliminated. Just a suggestion.

I removed the commas and renamed it to remove the 85 mph speed alert (number digits in the file name), then sent it to Miss POI. It still has a possible duplicate entry; but the author will have to correct that.

This file has been fixed

This file has been fixed now, thanks RT for sending me the corrected file.

Miss POI

thanks all for fixing this.

thanks all for fixing this.
I tried to open it in excel but thaier wasn't any data after line 1141 ithink thats it. I was going to try to fix it for myself before transfering to my c330.
Anyhoo thanks again you all are super

Name missing

Line 639 is missing a name. It just has the lat/long coordinates. Miss POI, could you please add "?" as the name since POI flags the line as an error.

There are ....

There are several lines with no names. The fields are not blank as POI Verifier added a space to all blank entries in field 3 and 4.

Ah yes they do have a space

Ah yes they do have a space which still causes POIEdit to flag an error. Which it should since you have no idea what the POI is? I have 700,000+ POIs on my Nuvi so I would like avoid any blank as in non descriptive names.

POI Loader Works

POI Loader will load the follow POI and display it on the GPS as "Custom POI Point":
-86.794126,33.34653," "
-91.734861,34.78147," "

There are other POIs at POI Factory that had blank name field until POI Verifier inserted a space. POI Loader loads them correctly and displays them on the GPS as "Custom POI Point". I don't believe we should expect the Custom POI author to write a file and then make sure it works on all other software programs, including PoiEdit.

What "descriptive names" will a ? in a blank name field tell you that a space won't? A ? displays a ? where a space displays "Custom POI Point".

I did not know "Custom POI

I did not know "Custom POI Point" was used by POI loader since I always covert a .cvs to .gpx so I can view them with MapSource. I'll just add that to my list of edits I need to do to create .gpx files.

And by ? what I should have put is " ?" .. in this case "e85allstates ?", so I would know which of many files the "? " came.

Thanks for your input.

With the new POI Loader

With the new POI Loader 2.5.2.0 I get an error message on line 639? This appears to be the blank line with a space that RT was passionate about not changing. Looks like Garmin POI Loader now flags empty fields!

Not correct

All 1142 lines of this E85 file were just downloaded and installed on my Garmin nuvi350 with no errors using 2.5.2.0.

As quoted from my previous post in this thread "There are several lines with no names. The fields are not blank as POI Verifier added a space to all blank entries in field 3 and 4." ..... thereby making these fields 'not blank'. Check YOUR file for errors. My guess is you opened the file in Excel and resaved it without running POI Verifier, thereby removing the spaces POI Verifier inserted in the file.

As I've stated many times, Excel will format the POI file in a way you don't want ... this is only one of its problems, it removes lone-spaces. A better way to modify the POI files is to use Notepad; that way you can see exactly what's in the file and it will be re-saved without re-formatting it.

As a side note ... even if what you said was correct, if one had the ability to see what the software developers were going to put in their next version so every file could be prepared for it, I'm sure they'd be putting their talent to better use than writing POIs!

I must have viewed it in

I must have viewed/saved it in Excel a long time ago since the exact same file loaded with the old POI loader version. So the new POI Loader behaves differently in this grey area. Anyway I still think a "blank" field with or without spaces is not desired and should be modified since one can't tell what the POI was supposed to be?
