MSN Direct Problem - Anyone Else Experienced This?

I received my MSN Direct Receiver in perfect order, connected to their site and activated the unit. After a little while some information had been downloaded to my GPS and was accessible as expected. Then I discovered and meet feature, you actually can send waypoints directly to you GPS from Windows LiveMaps but only after you created an account and linked your MSN Direct Receiver to it (which I did). I really enjoyed the feature and used it a few timed. However from some reason I thought that there was a fee for using Windows Live and canceled the account (closed it). Shortly afterward after further investigation I found out that it was a free service, I created another Windows Live account. This is where all went bad, went I tried to send locations to me GPS again as in the past the program (Windows LiveMaps)requested that I link my MSN Direct Receiver, however this time it gave back a message that my device was already linked with a another Windows Live account. I called MSN Direct and found out that when I closed my first Windows Live account, my MSN Direct Receiver was not de-associated from it and is foreever link with it, and this is what is preventing me from using my MSN Direct Receiver with my newly created account. I spent over 10 hrs on the phone and sent/received 9 emails from Microsoft they are un-able to correct the problem. What I will need to do if I really want to use the sent to GPS feature from Windows LiveMaps again, is to purchase a new MSN Direct device.

Sorry, I mis-read your

Sorry, I mis-read your question, I have the Nuvi 770 and yes, I beleive that it is also true for the other GPSs as it does not depend on the GPS but rather on the fact that the device cannot be associate more then once with Windows Live. So as long a person does not close their account all should be OK.

Contact Microsoft to reopen

Have you tried to contact Microsoft Live (not the MSN Direct guys) to reopen your closed account...

I believe Microsoft holds it for like 6 months or so just because people come back and want to reopen an account using the same login name.

Microsoft Direct is a program installed in some GPSr units which has the ability (for a fee) to provide traffic information, fuel locations, some POIs and movie start times. This information comes in through a FM receiver imbedded in the power cord of some units such as the NUVI 680 which I have.

NUVI 680, NUVI 5000, MS S&T,

It took several telephone

It took several telephone calls (I spent over 12 hours on the telephone altogether) and I was redirected back and forth between Garmin, MSN Direct and Microsoft. The problem is now fixed, a Supervisor at MSN Direct de-activated and re-activated my MSN Direct Receiver, I was then able to link my device with my new account.
