GPS Could Be Made Illegal In NY

This is a little scary

This quote says it all "“I can understand a monitor in the rear, but up front it is a different world,” said Mr. Marcellino, who sponsored a bill last year to ban all “DISPLAY GENERATING DEVICES” in the driver’s view. New York already has a law against TV sets in the front seat.

Just looking out the windshield at times is like watching an action movie!

It's even more exciting in the Philippines. I told my stepson when I was visiting Metro-Manila last September that he did not need to EVER have a video game, as a 10 minute drive through the neighborhood near the SM Mall (near "Fairview") is all the excitement he would ever need!

You are so right!

To outlaw gps would be crazy! It's not like you're watching a movie which would distract you.. If anything it's much safer than the alternative like trying to read maps while travelling..

Ray

Even if it is a distraction, it is so much better than trying to read a mapquest printout or triptick while going through an unfamiliar area.

The only time it becomes a hazard is when one (certainly not I!) tries to look up restaurants, etc., and other locations, while driving. That is when I can get distracted and need to be super-slow in using that function of the GPSr, so I am concentrating on driving, not on looking things up.

Ah Yes...the Phillipines

When I was there I wouldn't get into a Jeepney unless I was totally drunk and pronounced legally dead!

Sure do miss the place though. wink

If the trend continues, some of our elected officials may suggest banning passengers. They can become unpredicably distracting at times.

Be careful who you vote into office. Some of our choices should have been moved on to other careers when they ran out of useful ideas.
