Garmin Glitch - why did this happen?

On our recent visit to the Tucson/Phoenix area our Garmin was taking us on all the back roads. I check the route both on fastest route then on shortest route. Both routes were the same...off the highway.
I turned the unit off and back on to reboot, but still nothing.
Finally I hit the "restore settings" and boom, the highway route appeared when I put in our destination again.

Any ideas on why this might have happened?

I think Flaco means that in Avoidances, you should uncheck Highways so Highways would appear again.

You can easily and accidentally place a check mark in any of the categories that will take you on all kind of wacky routes. At least I did lol.

Avoidances

I had the same problem during my last trip to Denver. I found later that I had checked "Toll Roads" under avoidances.

No wonder Jill was trying to get me off the highway at every off ramp.

BTW, how was the drive between Phoenix and Tucson otherwise?

Sounds as though the USAGE MODE was set for Pedestrian, or Bicycle, instead of Automobile.

Garmin and Phoenix/Tucson

"I had the same problem during my last trip to Denver. I found later that I had checked "Toll Roads" under avoidances."

I'm pretty certain I didn't touch the avoidance setting, but that would explain it.

"No wonder Jill was trying to get me off the highway at every off ramp."

Same thing was happening to me.

"BTW, how was the drive between Phoenix and Tucson otherwise?"

We left Phoenix airport at 7:30 PM and got into Tucson at 10:30 PM It was a breeze until we came to a stop then a crawl for about THIRTY miles on I-10 where they are doing 24/7 construction and have closed exits.

Before we left we printed out Mapquest maps and had AAA make us a TripTik itinerary. AAA gave us that construction advisory, so we were prepared for delays.

On the way back to the airport it was smooth sailing all the way. All in all it was a great trip.

Usage Mode

The street pilot 340 doesn't have a usage mode. Wish it did!

That usage mode, IMO, is

That usage mode, IMO, is almost useless. Most of these units don't have batteries so its always going to be in some kind of "car".

What?

HUH? You totally lost me! For one, most units, if not all, have batteries.

Second, what does mass storage mode have to do with batteries or cars?

Obviously, I am really missing something here.

I think Cheryl was talking about Pedestrian mode.

But obviously these units now almost all have batteries and can be used while walking at least in some manner. (That poster has a 2820 listed which I believe doesn't have a battery.)

Pedestrian mode only affects ROUTING, so using the unit while walking without being "on a route" is definitely possible and useful.
