How do I use POIs for TomTom

What is the process for using the POIs in TomTom?

Thanks!

TomTom OV2

To use the POI files from this site with TomTom, you'll need to convert them to OV2 format. One popular tool that does this is PoiEdit (from Dnote software).

Basic steps:

- download and install PoiEdit on your PC

- download a POI file from POI-Factory.com

- Open the POI file with PoiEdit (choose file type Garmin Comma Separated before opening the file)

- Select File > Save As > TomTom Binary (.ov2) to make a new OV2 file

- Connect your TomTom to your computer and copy the OV2 file to your TomTom's map directory (usually called usa_and_canada)

The file will show up as a new POI category on your TomTom.

Usual disclaimer - make a backup of your TomTom using the "TomTom HOME" software before you try any customizations.

JM

This is true.

I use POIEdit and it works well.

Thanks!

Thanks so much!

It is very helpful, thanks.

It is very helpful, thanks.

Great Info

I use TomTom so this was great info to know.

Additional customization

In additional to JM's comment, you can further customize TOMTOM by creating a custom icon and warning message. They must be the same file name with different extension though under the top map folder.

The icon can be bmp format and usually is about 26x26 size. The audio warning message must be ogg format. You can download a free tool to convert your recording from the likes of mp3 to ogg format at http://www.vorbis.com

Jeff

good info

That works really good thanks.

Some examples

- When I approach a red light camera instead of hearing a beep or a bell I have created a voice that says "Traffic Camera".

- I have created individual voices for speed traps. When approaching a speed trap I hear "speed trap 55 (or the max. mph for that area). That way I don't have to take my eyes off the road.

You can create your voices at
