Identifying Redlight Cameras

I've seen the big boxes that redlight cameras sit in. My version of the redlight camera list also alerted me at an intersection in Florida where there were no "big boxy" devices around.

A lot of intersections these days seem to have small cameras mounted on the traffic signal. The intersection that I mentioned had these small cameras. Does anyone know what they are?

I am getting a lot of alerts for those also. I believe these are just traffic monitoring cameras so the local DOT can see what is going on for traffic control purposes.

The little cameras

Yes, they are DOT cameras for traffic monitoring. Most were mandated following 911 and are used for security also.

They are not redlight cams.

Miss POI, I haven't run into them in this area, so far. I just knew of the cameras being referred to. If I find any, I will gladly let you know.

I would like to have a volunteer who has a copy of the red light camera compare the locations on this map with the ones in the file and let me know if I am missing any. First to respond gets the chore. I will send you a list of the intersections in that area to help you out.

Thanks Clem, I really appreciate that.

False Positives

I will double check my info next time I am down in that area of Florida. Just for clarification the ones I am referring to are on the Gulf Coast, not Palm Beach.

Build Them and They Will Come

Yesterday, 20 May 2008, the Palm Beach County commissioners approved the installation of red light cameras in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Installation will be done by the end of the year. If caught, the fine will be $125 and no points will be deducted from the driver license.

Miss POI, I will keep you informed of the new locations as the cameras are installed.
