Big trk drivers/rvs

I`ll try to keep this short. Sorry no link. Check out consumer reports, cars, more cars, gps. They have a description of a NUVI 5000 coming out soon aimed at us. Interesting. Just wanted to pass it on. Be safe. God Bless.

Thank you sir. Appreciate

Thank you sir. Appreciate the link. I notice it also contains the story about the company called "Becker?" And the Nuvi 5000 is listed on Garmins web page under a search -for more info. I think it said it must be hooked to pwr. supply when I checked its features against the nxt model. I`d sure like to see how tht big screen looks!

Interesting articles

Cellular connectivity will indeed be in our future in the upscale models for both traffic guidance and POI and map updating and sharing of information.

I was amused at Sony's direction of adding what they called "gesture commands". This might not be a good thing. I've gestured some commands to my Nuvi on occasion when I disagreed with routing instructions. Thankfully, Jill did not respond. mrgreen

More voices

Along with the gestures command they should also expand the voices files, some that come to mind are, “broken English” for those of us recently arrived into the country, “Southern talk” for people south of the Mason Dixie line, “Eubonic” for people in the hood, English with Spanish accent” English with Hindu accent”, just to name a few.

U know thats funny-but it

U know thats funny-but it would be cool! They would have to let the right people design each as to not affend anyone.

re: Garmin 880

I'd like to get my hands on the 880. Hopefully the interface is easy to use so attention can be kept on the road.

"Garmin's new nuvi 880 portable GPS navigation device, introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), takes speech recognition technology one step further than other units on the market by allowing the driver to control the device entirely with voice commands. Other devices advertised with this feature still require a combination of voice and touch-screen input."

I think thats a great idea. As it becomes cheap to transfer data. How great would that be to get an imediate update of a traffic jam from another gps user already in it on the same road. Too cool!
