Garmin 7xx route avoidance? satellite acquisition time?

I had a Magellan Maestro for about 3 days and one of the things that I liked about it was the ability to look at the route it had calculated and give the option of excluding a specific road. I read a comment on another forum that seemed to say that this functionality was also on the 7xx series. Is this true?

Also, Has the latest firmware fixed the long satellite acquisition times?

I have a 760. It was a little slower today, for some reason. It is usually very quick. We will see what happens in the next couple of days. Don't know if it was because I just loaded the new 2.5, and it takes time to work after it is loaded.

The unit may not have gotten a strong signal at first, but it worked.

I have a 650 and it was slow to acquire at 6:15am EST

This morning it took more than five minutes to acquire the satellites with my Nuvi 650.

i guess no route avoidance

i just went to Best buy and tested out a 760. It does not have route avoidance from what I could see. I do however like the size of the 7 series and the fact that there is a qwerty keyboard.

Also while i was there i saw that they were selling the 680's for $479 the same as costco. I wonder why these are so cheap?

Acquisition time

I've found that if my various Nuvis have been unused more than 24 hours, the next time I turn it on, the initial acquisition time is 3 to 5 minutes at most. My latest Nuvi, a 750 - was taking more than 5 minutes all the time...I sent it back, and received a new one...and it even locks on in my livingroom just like my 660 does.

The LN740 has that capability...love it!

On the 760, if you go to

On the 760, if you go to Tools, Navigation, you can check Avoidances.

Avoidance

The 7xx numi's do not have route avoidance. You can optionally avoid U turns and a few other items.

Normally my 7xx will acquire the satellites in 5-30 seconds. If I use it inside and it can't acquire them then it takes about 90 seconds the next time.

Test

Using MapSource, Zoom into the area you want to avoid. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Routing. Click on Advanced in "Try to Avoid" had choose a test area. Click OK and upload to GPS.

I know this worked with SP 2620 but not with the Nuvi 680.

.

Custom avoidances won't transfer to the nuvis (or the Zumos for that matter).

Avoidance if using traffic

The route avoidance works when you are using the traffic receiver. It automatically takes me on different routes if there are traffic backups. It also gives me the option to avoid a route as well. You just need to be using the traffic receiver and there needs to be a traffic slowdown to use it. Otherwisw all you get is the detour button.
