POI Icon

Thanks for the reply. I was unable to find an ICON folder on the 260. Will the loader placed the icons in the right place?

icons

Icons are compiled by POI Loader and associated with the specific poi file. Download the icon and save it in the same directory as the poi file. Rename the downloaded icon file the same as the csv file.
Example:
downloaded file-poi.csv / icon.bmp
renamed file-xyz.csv / xyz.bmp
After POI Loader is run, xyz.bmp icon file will be associated with xyz.csv.

I'm not sure if get this a 100% yet.
Since there's not an ICON or POI directory on my 260, where should I save the downloaded ICON?

icons

create a folder on your pc. download the icon and poi file and save them both on the same directory. Rename the icon file as previously mentioned.
Run poi loader and point it to the created folder

Download any POI files (and icons if available) that you want from POI Factory. Organize them on your PC as I am about to show...

1. Create an empty folder on your PC called POI (for want of a better name).

2. Within that folder create folders for the subcategories that you will be using for the actual POI files. There can be only one level of subfolders. For example... within the POI folder I want a category called "Restaurants", so I name the new folder with that name. Into that folder I place the POI files which I downloaded for Outback, Chilis, Applebees, etc. Each of those POI files is either a .gpx or .csv file.

3. Move the poi files (either .gpx or .csv file extensions will work) to the appropriate folder. Include any of the .bmp icon files that you want to associate with the POI files in the same folder. The Icon file name must be the same as the .gpx or .csv file (i.e., for Outback.gpx the icon file must be Outback.bmp).

4. When all this is done, start the POI Loader wizard and follow the instructions to load the entire POI folder you created onto your GPS. It will replace any custom POI files that are currently on your unit, so make sure that your POI folder on your PC contains ALL of the POI's you want on your unit. The POI Loader will organize the POI files on the unit. Exit the POI Loader.

5. Disconnect your GPS from the PC, turn it on, and go to Where To? - Extras - Custom POI and see all your stuff installed.

Need Clarification

Are custom POIs different than the POIs that are preloaded onto the unit when you buy it?

And if so, does the POI loader replace only the custom POIs, or does it replace all the POI files both custom and preloaded?

thanks

Custom POI's are indeed places that are unique and are more current than what may be on the unit. There may be some duplicates as would be the case with say hotel files.
POI Loader only deals with custom POI's. No locations that come with the GPS have the ability to be removed individually or as a group.
Hope this helps explain things for you.
