Short Notice for Turns?

Using the Nuvi 750, to me it seems that the announce notice to turn etc is often quite short, even at low speeds(30 mph) One hardly has adequate time to get into the proper lane. Not always, but often sad Anyone else agree? I guess I was spoiled with VzNavigator with also uses Navteq mappings. It would talk you to death several times before the turns.

750 Announces Turns Together

650 is also slow

It gives notifications ahead of time if you're driving on the same road. However if you need turn and turn in let's say 100meters, the alert comes after you passed the turn sad. Yesterday i experienced it twice....

In my experience with the 750 it announces them both at the same time. It says the first turn and if the next turn is very close, it announces it right after.

Yes, with our 260

(running software version 4.40 - which corrected an issue with unit not speaking at appropriate time) the unit announces (as example) "turn right" followed almost immediately by "then turn right". Only if the second turn is very close after the first. Do you have latest software for 650?

This is a MAJOR FLAW for Garmins

I have the Nuvi 350 and its one of my biggest complaints. Obviously this hasn't been fixed...

But I still love my Nuvi.

I don't understand way

I may be mistaken about this, but it seems like the turn announcements are based on time and current speed. That is, if you are traveling at 60mph, the 1st announcement comes at about 1 mile prior to turn, if you were going 30mph, this then be about 1/2 mile. I can see how if you were in slow heavy traffic and needed to move over 5 lanes to make the exit, this might be difficult. Does anyone know for sure what the formula Garmin has set as to when to make the turn announcement? In case you are unaware, at any time while on a calculated route, you can momentarily press the "Turn In" button on the lower right corner of the nüvi screen and it will present the next turn. Using the scroll arrows will let you see any turns to come.

The Useful Green Bar

One of the most useful tools built into many Nuvi models just doesn't get mentioned enough. It's the green bar hovering atop the map. When navigating to a destination just tap the bar and you get a list of turn by turn instructions along with the distance to that turn no matter what speed you're going. But wait, there's more! If you tap that turn/distance bar the screen will split and show the map on the left half of the screen while still showing the turn, the direction of the turn and distance to the turn on the right.

That way there's just no way anyone can say they didn't know a turn was coming for many miles. You've got the list, you've got the map, you've got the voice. It's all good!

Cheers wink

Even more useful tool

On the xx5 series you have the turn indicator on the top left with distance. I got used to it on the Mio I have and requested the 255 for Christmas for that reason.

I'm sure that workarounds are available to any unit that doesn't have this feature but it really nice to have when you're in situations that you need to know way ahead of time.

But I have to say that the 255 does give you a lot of notice as well, announcing the turn in advance, anouncing it a few times and it seems to give you turn after turn if they are close (example: turn right on main street then turn right)and then it will give you turn @ street name.

It's a good thing that there's GPS systems or I would be ... always lost!

I have a Nuvi 350 which was rated excellent by many reviews and the turn notification is very good. It appears that buying a newer more expensive unit is not always better.

Have to agree with you

I have had many, many times when a turn will be right upon me due to the short notice. I usually get this a lot in office parks. However, I usually try to get an idea of the final destination when I stop at traffic lights so there are fewer surprises.
I rely on the voice directions mustly, but do occasionally view the screen
