Red Light Information

I have used the Red light warnings and they work like a charm. I have the Garmin 760 that I got for Christmas.

It dings and works great. Quick question. Can you add a voice prompt to it as well, such as "Red Light Camera" or something like that to the 760?

Not really a big deal, but was curious.

Thanks for everyones help thus far!

Yes, you can--just download one of the red light mps sounds and rename the file as the csv in the same folder.
Example:

redlight camera.csv
redlight camera.mp3

Then run POI Loader, that will give you the custom alert.

Thanks. I am a bit of a novice. Where can I get the red light sound and such? Once I download it, how do I rename the file?

I know the basics, but once I learn, I will remember, I promise hahahaha

Great info

Mariner,

Your tip is a very helpful one. I too am interested in having an audio component for the redlight camera/speed camera. I have a team of people on the road every day. They know not to speed, but it's easy to go faster than you expect, especially when everyone around you is doing 10mph faster than you. I want to give them a heads up as they approach those speed and redlight cameras.

In the upper right hand

In the upper right hand corner of this page is a link for "sounds."

As long as they don't drive

As long as they don't drive so slow they create a traffic hazard in the process. I don't habitually speed, but sometimes it's for the good of the traffic flow to kick up the speed a little. It's easy enough with a GPS to know how fast you're going-I used mine to calibrate my Scanguage.

The red light camera POIs

The red light camera POIs are awesome indeed. You never know where they may be lurking. Well, now you do. smile

Renaming files

There are many ways to rename files. Here's just one assuming you're running an IBM compatible PC.
1- Right click the Start Icon from the bottom left on your screen
2- Left click on Explore
3- Find the directory where you stored your POI mp3
4- Highlight the file name and Right click on it
5- Go down to where is says rename and left click on it
6- Move your cursor up to it and type in the new name

Thanks!

I will give that a try. As I mentioned, I may be slow, but I am not afraid to learn!!!

Going To Florida

Leaving for Florida in a couple of days. I'll be down there until the beginning of April. Hopefully, I'll be able to add to the Red Light POI.

Can anyone tell me what

Can anyone tell me what Garmin Nuvi models support custom sounds?

I have a 200 and I have a sneaking suspicion it doesn't.

I have the same question. I

I have the same question. I have a 200w and I am curious if these will work on it.

Sounds

I was able to set up the Red Light POI and imported the Red Light mps sound clip that goes with it. Just had to put the mp3 sound clip in the same folder as the Red Light csv folder and it works. Now, about 1000 feet from a Red Light Camera, it warns me with the mp3 sound clip. Don't know if this helps

Some nuvi models do, some don't.

Some of the higher end (read: larger model number) models support MP3 sound files and custom alert sounds. However the 200 & 200W do not support custom alert sounds or MP3 files as they are the bottom of the line (yet still great little GPS units).

When you get an alert of the 200/200W you will get a bong or bell type alarm. To me, it it very noticeable so works well. Maybe not as fun as an MP3 of your screaming or Spock speaking to you, but still effective.

Garmin nüvi 200 (my first GPS), 780, & 3700 Series. And a Mac user.

.

For Garmin units, only those models that have an MP3 player support Custom Alert sounds.

You can see which models have them by using the comparison page on Garmin's website.

Thanks for the info, so

Thanks for the info, so custom sounds do not work. However the red light camera files should right????

.

Yes, you will get the default sound as well as a visual alert on the screen.

Yes. I put the mp3 sound for

Yes. I put the mp3 sound for the red light camera in the red light file. Just remember to make sure the 2 files are the same with the exception of the ending.

ex. red light. csv
red light. mp3

Be careful with spaces

Regarding:
ex. red light. csv
red light. mp3

Be sure not to put a space after the .
it should read:
red light.csv
red light.mp3

I actually would not put any spaces in. Some programs interpret spaces differently (especially the web), I would make it:
red_light.csv
red_light.mp3

Yes, sorry about the spaces. Don't put spaces.

No alert

Be aware this will not create an alert without using the manual mode. The magic word for proximity alert is redlight. red_light won't do it.

Must redlight be the .csv name or in the description or both?

POI Loader 'Help' section has a lot of good info on setting alerts. Look under Creating Custom POI Files. The portion concerning redlight is "If the file name contains 'redlight', POI Loader assumes all records in the file have proximity alerts with a distance of 400m/0.25 miles."
